nMelbourne Airport is efficient and generally well-organized. Security and check-in usually move quickly, and signage is clear. Some areas feel a bit outdated and food prices are high, but overall it’s a solid airport with good transport options.
During my travels, I've had the opportunity to visit numerous airports, and I must say that this one stands out as one of the worst. When checking in for any airline, there are no vibrant signs or designated carpet mats to differentiate between first class, business class, and economy class. This lack of visual appeal is disappointing and fails to create an inviting atmosphere. The lounges are average and do not enhance the overall experience. As a passenger, I believe that the airport should evoke a sense of excitement and joy about flying, which this airport clearly lacks.

This review is for Melbpurne Airport Terminal 2 only. I don't know about the other airport terminals because I would like to come back to Australia in the near future and to visit other airlines in other terminals and Melbourne is also a prospering and abundant city, which is better than Sydney. Being a bit biased, this Terminal 2 is outdated, ugly, dark, and it needs serious changes or renovation.nnDrop off outside was a mess, at 10 am on a Thursday 20/3/2025, you have to wait car by car 15 minutes to reach Terminal 2. Luckily I had traveled on a toll road Citylink M1 and M2 saving me more than 30 minutes and got in the terminal at 10 am for a 12 pm flight.nnSecurity X-ray machining sucks. After entering the secure hold area for travelers only, why are our bags pushed to the side at first when the airport security worker stated my bags are okay and directly gave it to me? Should have passed through without the machine pushing my bag off to secondary, as all the other people had their bags passed through the X-ray but I had been pushed off to the side. I wish I can photo but it is not permitted in the security area. nnPassing customs exit, my passport was scanned and got through but my mom cannot get her passport read because the e reader machine was broken, so the customs officer told her to line up at the manual passport to be checked by a person, adding another 5 minutes. Again, I wish I can photo but it is not permitted in the customs area. nnAfter customs you're passing at least 2 duty free stores 1 large duty free after customs where you cut through and the 2nd is on a side which doesn't make sense. Wouldn't you use this to add more airport gates, bars, and restaurants so more airlines can park and serve more people?nnAirline Lounges are all centralized in one middle location surrounding gates 2 to 11. Its not diversifying. If you are in gates 12 to 20, leaving the lounge from the central location takes another 15-20 minutes walk. Why couldn't you put a lounge on gates 12-20?nnOne positive note, I love pandas I see going through the long hallway walk to gates 12-20. I only wish that you gave credit to whoever painted and designed those pandas. There was no sign on who created them.nnOverall, I have to give this rating. The agents at United, Security, Customs, and Gate Agents are nice and positive but this airport terminal in itself needs a change.
We came to from Istanbul via Singapore, it is not a very big airport, but it is easy to get out of the airport, the first thing you do when you go out is to fill in a fund. Download Uber before leaving the airport. I will definitely call Uber. They give you a number. When you get in, you can use your credit card and withdraw it directly from your card. Have fun.
