What an amazing Chinese restaurant! Fast and friendly service, delicious food, huge portions. So sorry to hear its closing its doors forever in 2 weeks, glad we got our last meal in as booked solid now until closing day. Special mention to Manager Kenny for his great attitude!
Took the chance to try them out before they close down for good on 5 December. Theyre only allotting 1hr per group, and I suggest coming in first thing when they open up to avoid the crowd. I missed yum cha and this was actually a change after months in lockdown. I really loved the siumai and the honey glazed pork was the winner for this meal! We also ordered the cantonese fried rice, which I dont recommend btw as it’s too dry and bland. But other than that, everything hit the spot.
We absolutely love this iconic yum cha and will miss it!!! The delicate flavours are spot on with the necessary cacophony of a yum cha busyness! Glad we managed to savour these today
Traditional Guangdong experience but really Pricy 2 dishes for nearly $70; if you don't speak cantonese you will have diffculty ordering, english works but not that well. Closing down at Dec 5th forever
Update - sadly Marigold has announced its closing its doors are 39 years. Went for one last hoorah with a friend. Sad to see a place like this go, we’ll miss you! This is my fav yum cha in Sydney! The atmosphere, the food, it’s all good! There is a lot of variety on the menu from dumplings to noodles to duck and pork dishes, greens and desserts. The carts come by in a steady stream. Favs include the steam pork buns, prawn dumplings, bbq pork, salt and pepper squid, greens, scallop dumplings and the veg dumplings. They’re all yummy washed down with green tea. The only thing I would change is putting back Diet Coke and on the menu - they only serve Coke Zero now Yum cha is on the fourth floor in the Marigold building, lifts are next to the escalator. Entrance to building on George Street and Thomas Street. Parking across the street at Haymarket under Paddy’s Market and also the Capitol Theatre
First of all I was very impressed with their customer service. starting from booking table to arriving at the restaurant and all the way through table service, every step the customer service was excellent. Staff were friendly, attentive and have good sense of humour. It is very COVID safe. They provided two pairs of chopsticks for each one of us so that we don't cross contaminate the food. The tables are spaced out very nicely and I felt comfortable dining there. The food is nice and reasonably priced. They also gave us complementary fruits and desserts. I wouldn't say it's the best food I have ever had but I would definitely go back for the overall experience.
We arrived at around 11.30 on a Saturday but this place was packed!! The food trolleys were on stroll all the time and there were a variety of yum cha dishes to choose from. One thing I can say that this place has some dishes that I’ve never seen at any other yum cha places. The aunties were quite friendly but spoke broken English - still understandable though. The only negative was we were told to finish in about 1 hour because they were too many customers waiting and the trolleys were coming at long intervals for our table so wasn’t sure what happened. P.s: I went for the 2nd time after hearing the news that they will be gone for good… Some Sydneysiders will definitely miss this place! Goodbye
We held our Wedding Banquet here the food was fantastic and we attended our Chinese War Hing Annual banquet here on Monday the food hasn't changed. Thankyou the Chef's for doing a fantastic job n the staff expecially the lady that served table no. 20 i didn't recall her name but she is one of the most nicest person. I took pictures of the food n she was patiently waited until i was done then started serving ...and of course service with a smile ... i hope the manger see's this post, she should be given a raise ...thankyou thankyou thankyou the best customer service u could find these days not all staff gives customers that traditional good service we all had a fantastic time n throughly enjoyed our banquet. Pictures posted ...Look at the food Amazing for sure a 5 Star rating n experience !!! Keep up the Good workCheers # Updated edition to my review November 2nd : We will greatly miss Marigold Restaurant as they will be Closed their doors by December 5th 2021 n cease trading anymore Thankyou to the Owners, Managers , Chefs n Staff of this Iconic Establishment. U will b missed.
Great food and ambience. We had the set menu yum cha which was great! Especially loved the mango pancakes
The service was rude. The food was poor quality.. with long wait between carts.... they didn't even have buns .. we seen the same dumplings 5 times and only ever had last choice of food as it was always served other end of the restaurant first.... i was with chinese wife and a group of friends when ever i spoke english to wait staff they then would only talk to my wife and her friends ... despite them talking english to all english speaking tables... . I am a big believer in tiping and i normally argue with my wife about it... but the service was horrible. I think the worst part is when the head wait staff/possible manager was called over to get a tea refilled... her first response was "sigh..WHAT do Youu WANT!" Then left with a loud audible sigh/Grunt easily over the resturants noises Best thing i had was the pork .. my guests liked the congee.. slim pickings for decent flavour tho
