Madame Hanoi

About

In a creative moment inspired by travel to exotic places and a nod to the colonial features of the physical space, Madame Hanoi was born.

Story

With a background firmly rooted in the highly technical skills of Japanese cooking, chef Nic Watt has always been a passionate lover of Asian cuisine.

On visiting Vietnam on honeymoon with his wife, Nic was instantly drawn to Vietnamese food with its heavy influence of French Colonialism. From baguettes to coffee, the influence has been far-reaching on this already gastronomically renowned nation.

Ho Chi Minh City was conquered by France in 1859 and was the capital of the French colony and renamed Saigon. Today it remains the largest city in Vietnam and the indelible mark of the French influence remains on everything from elaborate architecture to street names and most notably, the cuisine. This European influence gave rise to an entirely new taste to traditional Vietnamese food, while also showcasing the way the Vietnamese have put their own stamp onto food introduced by the French.

It is this unity that shines through the inspired menu at Madame Hanoi. A desire to feature dishes that are both uniquely Vietnamese and unmistakably French, sit in unity alongside dishes that harmoniously blend the two.

A globetrotter at heart with a career spanning all four corners of the globe, Madame Hanoi is Nic’s most personal project to date. A love for shared experience with friends and a passion for truly authentic Asian cuisine using only the very best produce is the driving force behind Madame Hanoi.

On finding the former railway site in Adelaide, Australia — with its distinctive and impressive original 19th C architectural features, combined with South Australia’s abundance of some the world's best produce, the idea for Madame Hanoi crystallised.

So from the hustle and bustle of old Hanoi, to the sophisticated boulevards of the 5th arrondissement, let Madame Hanoi indulge the dreamers and adventurers, the families and friends to come together on flavour filled adventure.

Originally from Adelaide & was back in town to meet girlfriends for lunch. I had always wanted to eat at Madame Hanoi as it had been recommended by so many. 4 of us booked lunch & were not disappointed. The venue is fun & eclectic, many different levels, fabulous wall art & food to satisfy. We ordered a range of plates, cocktails & a bottle of bubbles. Service was ok on the day. May have been a little short staffed but who isn’t, I don’t let that worry me, I just enjoy the time there. I will be going back again. Highly recommend.
Ambience was nice, serving sizes were decent. The fusion flavours were interesting. Service was good. Enjoyed the coffee mousse and creme brulee. Crispy pork was juicy and crispy.
Very good location and beautiful inside. The food was very good and presented very well, it's a bit overpriced to my opinion. The desserts ok but not special to me. I liked it but i am not sure if I would go back.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and good service. Had lunch here with couple of friends. The lunch menu is quite good with lots of choice and reasonable price. Food was delicious.
Awesome food, very nice atmosphere and super friendly staff. I have a few food intolerances that I mentioned before arriving and I have rarely been accomodated in such an amazing way. The staff made this dinner experience so easy and relaxing. We will definitely go back.
Great food and drinks, amazing atmosphere and friendly.staff. I had a fantastic night with my friends from NSW/QLD/VIC and we all loved the flavours. So well done. The Vietnamese G&T is a must and we had the “spoil us” package where they literally make it up for you with the best dishes
If you are looking for authentic Vietnamese food, this is not the place. Chicken curry with rice was ok. But that beef noodle was a bit disappointing, too much rice noodle not enough of soup. But if you are looking for good atmosphere for a drink with friends, that’s fine.
Located in the heart of CBD at the casino entrance and the iconic Adelaide train station building, just perfect spot. Wether it’s for dining modern contemporary Vietnamese fusion dishes or for drinks from the bar, it’s a lovely place to be. A toss between Desserts or the Hendricks High Tea a favorite but definitely try the Vietnamese Expresso Martini, it will keep you up to enjoy the night. Great they the change dessert menus but I wished they’d kept the Bomb Alaska dessert on the menu. The staff are lovely and service is fitting for a fine dining experience. Seating upstairs will give you a beautiful view of the Madame wall portrait but downstairs offers comfy swish booth seating for groups to mingle intimately.
I’m astonished at the attention to detail regarding not just food but the drinks and table service also. We really enjoyed our time. Can’t believe it’s been running for 8 years and this was our first time!!
Booked here @ 5:30pm before a show, got given an average table and asked to be moved place was empty but it couldn't be accommodated. Food was very yum, but a little expensive. For 2 entrees, 2 mains and 2 drinks each was $200 and the portions are not that big. However the food was fresh and tasty. Overall 80% - room for improvement.
