Dined at Madam Woo in January 2023. Reservation was easy through the website. Standout features of this restaurant are it's location, layout, service and food. It has atmosphere - that continuous buzz of chatter and laughter that gives you the privacy for your own conversations - but it is never too loud that you need to raise your voice. The food is excellent with some very interesting options. If anything - portions are a little large but one can always exercise self control. The service is brilliant - a standout - they anticipate your needs - never did we need to attempt the catch the server's eye. They are happy staff and properly trained. Food comes quickly so make sure your hungry!
Had a quick lunch while wandering around the city. Happy, attentive and friendly service. The food was served pretty quickly. Small portions but the food tasted very good. The place looks quite busy …. the seating is quite congested.
Great dinner at Madam Woo in Queenstown. Our favourite dish was the Malaysian slaw with duck followed by the wok fried Asian greens. The Portuguese custard tarts are also delicious.
This was an unpleasant dinner experience for us. The honey and soy squid is way too sweet that the sweetness refuses to leave ur mouth after it. Char Kway Teow has no wok hey smell / taste. It’s neither penang style nor singapore style, not here or there. Roast duck and hoisin sauce is simply instant prata and the hoisin sauce is also too sweet as well. The pork belly in the stir fry veg is so tough and the veg is half cooked in asian standard. The rice for the nasi lemak has no coconut flavor and only pandan flavor. We definitely will not recommend visiting.
We've had the joy of dining here during our stay in Queenstown. Food and drinks was excellent as usual. I have to commend the staff and team for the evening. Times are tough for businesses especially in the hospitality industry and you can see how every staff in the restaurant was working hard to deliver their best customer service for the flood of people that kept coming in. Despite the odds, the staff did put their best smile and foot forward to keep going for the evening. I hope one of them will get to read this and thank you for all that you do to make our evening a memorable one.
Food looked great but the taste wasn't quiet there. Ordered the laksa thought it was bland. Stir fry veges pretty much raw. Best thing of the night was the roti. Great vibe.
Awesome service, delicious food and great selection of drinks. Friends and I enjoyed the curry laksa, fried cauliflower and tasty mocktails. Vegetarian options: The restaurant had several vegetarian meals as well as options to make the dish vegetarian or vegan. Really great to see
A great place for Asian fusion food. All the food we ordered were very tasty. The service was great. I especially recommend the squid dish. The Hawker Roll with duck was also amazing. I also love their decoration and vibe. Definitely make a reservation as they are very popular.
Amazing food! The fried chicken was so delicious, as well as the Hawker roll and Malaysian slaw. The laksa was a bit thick and too rich, but still not too bad. Would recommend!Recommended dishesFried Chicken
For a restaurant that markets its specialties to be Malaysian/Singaporean food, I was sorely disappointed by the laksa which is unlike any kind of laksa I’ve eaten in Singapore where Im from or Malaysia. The bowl with no meat additions came with yellow noodles, one half of a hard boiled egg, shallots, a handful of cooked bokchoy, 3 small deep fried tofu squares, some raw bean sprouts, and coriander garnish. The soup was more milky sweet than spicy. The noodles were also slightly hard and not cooked fully. Laksa is a dish that varies in taste even between Singapore and Malaysia, and I understand there are local flavours depending on where you go, but I expected Madam Woo to at least serve a laksa that more closely resembles what it claims to authentically represent. When I was asked how the food was and replied that it was something I didn’t expect, as it was very different from what I’ve eaten in Singapore, the response was that the food is tailored to New Zealand taste and it was ‘made for everyone’. In that case then it would be good for the menu to say that the dishes have been modified to suit the local taste. When a dish is made true to its origins, is that not something everyone can enjoy too? I’ve eaten laksa from 3 different restaurants in the Queenstown region alone that were as different as night and day, so who’s to say what the ‘local’ taste is? Despite the food falling below expectations, the ambience was fantastic, music was great and the place was sparkling clean. I would come again, but not for the laksa. *UPDATE* I went back a second time and tried the char kway teow - this didn’t disappoint. It was less greasy than what I’m used to in Singapore not complaining about this, and there was a balance of flavour in the sauces used with the eggs, shallots, bean sprouts and spring onions, with a generous helping of Chinese sausages. This had prawns instead of the usual clams and it’s still good.
