We were visiting from Queensland, Australia and decided to have dinner at The Lone Star in Invercargill. Wow - one of the best meal I’ve had in New Zealand. Definitely the best garlic bread ever. Large loaf with plenty of buttery garlic. The fish and chips was delicious and very filling. Yummy salad too. Libby, our waitress was such a joy and extremely helpful when I asked about the fish. Highly recommended.
The Mussel dish was Devine, prepared and presented well, I would suggest that perhaps the mussels were detached from the shell however as it made if difficult removing them when they are immersed in a creamy seafood jus. The fresh fish if the day Gurnard in this instance was sadly not as fresh as it should have been and was overcooked The batter reflecting this the salad was quite limp and drowned in dressing, a little less next time please. The staff were friendly and helpful and had a smile when taking care of their customers which was great to see coming from the hospitality industry as I am 4&5 star Hotels. Overall a pleasant evening, thank you.
Really enjoyed our meal. Desert was fab and service was great. Might be back for ribs if I get the chance.
Our Whānau of 6 had a wonderful meal. Ordered online and everything was ready to devour on our arrival, cooked to perfection.nnThe Cadillac platter had a great variety and our daughters loved their dishes.nGenerous portions and the JD dessert was delicious!nnThank you Lone Star Team for making it extra special putting a candle on Hubby's dessert for his birthday.nnIt was all executed better than I requested and your service from start to finish was warming, welcoming and professional.nnSee you all for our next birthday celebration
We went here for dinner on the 4th February for my birthday and what a disappointment. Wait staff were amazing, friendly and very accommodating.nHowever, our entree was Mussel Mania, had one shell - no mussel. Told staff but nothing from Chef! As for our mains, I had Rock the Boat tarakihi fish was so thin it was dry and hard especially being cooked with Parmesan.nMy husband had a steak with add on mushrooms and 1egg. The egg was the best thing on his plate. His coleslaw had long and still compacted cabbage I could do better easily His mushrooms were so small, like small buttons cut into 4 pieces and were so salty. His buffalo fries were overcooked and soggy with oil/fat. The Jus was just so so runny, it was disgusting. And at the end still no mention of our missing mussel. The best thing about our meals were our drinks.nSo disappointed as we love Lone Star.nWe will not be going back!!! The Chef needs to get some training from the likes of the Dunedin branch. Always a good meal there.
