So we booked with this agency, and we're given a broken down invoice and intenary of the trip, attractions, and which attraction fees were included in the total price. We also included that we were traveling with a small toddler and going to be surfing in Arugam Bay, and will have a surfboard. So we meet our driver to take us to Arugam Bat, and he was fabulous. Great driver, knowledgable, friendly, and gets us safely to our destination. He tells us all the things we will be doing, and all the places he was going to take us, and if we needed anything to contact him preceeded to give his business caed. About a day or two later, the travel agent contacts us and states that we can't travel with our surf board, and will need to make arrangements for it and this is a very expensive board. She then stated that the driver was uncomfortable traveling with us, with the toddler and surfboard which was surprising news to us. This is extremely unprofessional and unacceptable to place clients in this situation. Several days later a van shows up for us, and our travel agent failed to inform us on his details, until hours later checking on us. Our driver then took us to some pretty shady tourist traps, like this one elephant "sanctuary" where you pay 3,000 to feed an elephant and 5,000 to ride..and there is one elephant changed to a tree, with terrible markings on it from being changed. When we finally get to one of the attractions that we "paid" for, we are told at the entrance that it wasn't "paid" for. Spent over 30 min in the heat with a toddler arguing about this with the agency...that claims the 2 forms that I received from them, Pinnawalla entrance fee being included was a "mistake". Very very unprofessional that you would wait the day of to tell me it was your error, and not the month prior to our trip. With zero way for us to verify. If your forms state that something is included, that is your contract to us that it is included. The agency stated they were going to wire the money to our driver, and we never received that money. He didn't speak English, and hardly understood us. When we went to our third destination Dambulla, they had all activities planned for one day, even though we were there for 3 days. No toddler is going to do the Dambulla temple, the village trek, and a safari. We paid for 2 safaris, yet only did one, bc we had to do a safari the next day for our son... Not pleased. The hotel was fabulous, but when we wanted to check out at 8:30, bc we had a 4 hour drive to the next place, we were held up bc the agency didn't pay the hotel bill...then blamed us for wanting to check out early..... Our other hotel, was the last hotel .I informed the agency to please put us close to the airport, our flight is at 5:30 am. Instead, we are placed 45 min from the hotel. By the time we went through security and ticket desk, our flight was doing last calls. But the agency expected us to drive to hotel, then 2 hours to Colombo to meet and greet, and shop, then 2 hours back...makes zero sense and, again, not suitable when traveling with toddler. We don't feel like we received our money's worth, and this was entirely too stressful. I thought using a travel agency was supposed to take the stress out of trips, not make it worse.
