Laurent Boulangerie Patisserie Hawthorn

Most the food and cakes are great, except for the ham cheese tomato croissant. If you just buy a croissant with no fillings it is delicious and fresh, but buy one with ham cheese tomato filling and it’s stale. I believe they use the previous days croissants to make these.

Excellent cakes. Pram friendly but you need to sit at the front. Staff are friendly. Coffee is strong!

This place is a bit of a mix of good and bad, which is quite unfortunate. Its does have its good points: some of the food they sell is above average; there pastries present well espiecally in the cakes area; their bread is the best in the area; and their coffee even if not the best is better than some other places in the area. Unfortunately there are some bad points too. The first thing noticed is the majority of the food in the display is neither labelled with name or a price (besides a few cakes), and the only menu is hard to find around the corner on the counter so it's quite difficult to know what you'll pay if you're trying to budget. Also the lack of menus is quite strange. Another large problem is some of their food, although the majority is well done, some are heated up badly, a little sloppy, bland, and have a salad which is weirdly just salad mix leaves (with a nice dressing at least). Their biggest problem unfortunately is the customer service, I've been twice and although the staff on the second visit were a lot friendlier, the first visit had staff that ignored customers on entering, hard to get the attention to order from, and slightly snappy. Not a welcoming environment at all. Although if you are there with good staff the calm music and gentle interior will give you a comfortable experience at least. But I can't rate this cafe very highly. Unfortunately There are better options nearby.

Spinach quiche is my favourite! Courtyard at the back is beautiful especially on a sunny day. Coffee is delicious. Black Forest cake is to die for.
