Langri Tangpa Buddhist Centre

About

A teaching and meditation centre in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Affiliated with the FPMT.

Story

A friendly and supportive environment for learning and putting into practice the teachings of the Buddha. Classes in meditation, yoga, emotional balance and overcoming destructive emotions, introduction to Buddhism, regular teachings with touring Tibetan lamas, yoga and vegetarian cooking. The centre is open to everyone with an interest in making their life happy and meaningful. There is no need to be a Buddhist to benefit from the courses on offer, and we encourage questioning and open dialogue.

We have an extensive beginners curriculum that runs in both the mornings and evenings. We welcome beginners, and there is always time for questions. We suggest you start with a beginner's course or a meditation evening, and then later hop into the very popular, in-depth, 3-year Discovering Buddhism course. Pujas (offering ceremonies) and retreats help to integrate practice and theory. We also offer weekly yoga classes, comprehensive home study courses on CD, non-religious courses on ethics, emotions and mindfulness, and regular social and community events.

We have an extensive lending library for members, and a Dharma Shop with books, statues, prayer flags and other practitioner needs.

Langri Tangpa Centre was founded in 1982, and is affiliated with the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT). Our principal teachers are HH the Dalai Lama, Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

Mission

Following the inspirational example of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Langri Tangpa Buddhist Centre (an FPMT affiliate) is dedicated to serving others with kindness and wisdom, and to educating people in ways to reduce suffering and promote the development of a more kind, compassionate and peaceful human family.

I love this centre. I'm not Buddhist, but I find the classes to be so accessible and relate to our modern, everyday problems. The principles often crossover with a lot of western psychology, so it feels like a therapy session in a classroom context. I'm so grateful to have found this places - everything is by donation so it makes it affordable. I found this centre after reading Meshel Laurie's book, "Buddhism for Break Ups", and have found a lot of relief, peace and happiness through this centre. Can't say thank you enough!

I first attended this centre in 2008 and have been attending the weekly Wednesday night teachings while I have lived in Brisbane. We are so fortunate to have such excellent Buddhist resources available to the Brisbane community through this amazing centre.

I first visited this Centre years ago and have been a regular attendee at the various classes, meditations and at special teaching events with guest lamas from India. The quality of the teachings is amazing. You can take what you feel comfortable with, and anything that you don't understand at the moment can be left aside. There is a wonderful library to answer all those questions that arise after you've thought about what you've heard, and there are students of all levels that are only too willing to talk to. This Centre has been my lifesaver - it is the place where I go to feel very peaceful and to be encouraged that living a life with good ethics and morality is indeed a very good choice. I take my hat off to everyone at the Centre for fostering a friendly and harmonious environment, especially knowing you are all volunteers. Well done.
