Story

THE KUMAR FAMILY

I came to New Zealand from Southern India in 1998, liked what I saw and brought my family in search of a better life.

We hoped and expected that our children would be the main beneficiaries of our work.The business has done much better than we anticipated and that is mainly because of the support we have had from the people of Paeroa.

I am now a New Zealand citizen and our younger daughter was born here making her a “Kiwi Kid”.

We really do appreciate your custom and we proud to be part of Paeroa. Thank You, we will continue to do our best to earn your continuing support.

Lamb korma and butter chicken were some of the best we’ve ever tried. Read the menu until the last page where you can find the heartwarming story of Kumar’s family with everyone helping out in the kitchen. Each meal felt truly home-made. Great potato naan as well.

Exceptional service and delicious food. So fantastic to see the vibrant colours and smell the amazing flavours coming from the busy kitchen. If you’re in Paeroa, make sure you stop here; you won’t be disappointed.

Stopped in for dinner on the way to Auckland from Tauranga. Food was absolutely incredible. Onion Baji and Samosa entrees best we’ve ever had and our chicken curries were generous and so flavoursome. Highly recommended as a stop if passing through the area unless you are a lucky local to make this place a regular visit! Can’t wait to return.

Had booked in with another restaurant in town for a birthday, and turned up and it was closed. Lucky us I called Kumars and they could fit us in!!  Best Indian restaurant I have been to, quality and flavour always on point and generous portions of meats in the curries.  The chicken pakora was bomb as and goat curry was very tender.  My family were very happy with their meals.

Me and my friends decided to eat some good indian desi food. So we went to kumar's dine-in.We ordered country Chicken , dum biryani, naan, kadhai paneer and fish curry. Food was soo yummy, spicy too, quantity was good enough to fill your desi food cravings. Staff was very friendly and helpful. But dine-in is expensive. They dont serve halal. Thank you.

It’s honestly kinda stupid how good this place is? Service was fantastic. Cook to order. Should’ve eaten here every night we stayed in Paeroa.

Lack of service. Over 1½hrs to wait at booked  table yet only 6 at one table being served and 2 more came in. Takeaways got their meals 25 minutes after ordering. My meal was on the menu 'with coconut cream' but was made with dairy cream causing allergic rash. As it was a very special occasion I wanted it to be a happy memory but sadly it was extremely disappointing. The $94 could have been better spent elsewhere.

From a foodies perspective, If you could bring the flavours and essence of authentic Kerala food on a plate with kiwi ingredients, it speaks a lot about your ability and technique. I’d been to Kerala for first time in April this year and loved the freshness of the food. The Veg Korma, veg Pilau and Naan were super delicious. Crispiest naan I ever had in NZ. Keep up Kumar’s. Will be back with family. Loved the feel of the restaurant with the open kitchen and beautiful regional art on the walls. Loved this place.

Ordered two Lamb Kadai takeouts with butter naan last night, had to wait some time as they were busy, but they were excellent, highly recommend.

Delicious indian food ! Naan was quite unique in a good way. Curry was also yum as well. Service was a little slow because the food was made to order.
