free museum. really liked the temporary exhibit downstairs that was centered around the black queer community. the upstairs exhibit was permanent and diverse. kieran gave an amazing talk about all the items on display. would definitely return.
A wonderful place to appreciate and learn about Aboriginal peoples' and Torres Strait Islanders' arts and artefacts. Learning about their history, culture and traditions is also eye-opening.. Visitors can also purchase some products made by Indigenous artists, which will directly benefit them and their community Love it! Thanks for organising such beautiful gallery/exhibition..
I very rarely leave negative reviews at all, but this museum is quite bad, at least went i went to see it. The permanent exhibition was closed. No audio guide or personal guide when I visited. Very few pieces on display. What was on display was uninteresting. The NGV right next door has a much more extensive, more interesting collection. I apologize for the negative review. Everyone who worked at the museum was very kind to me.
Cool place. We hired a conference room. Glad we did. Great space for up to 60ish. Amazing Aboriginal artefacts and art. Loved the local language on the toilet door!
Great indigenous artifacts to see, nice layout and they had souvenirs made by indigenous citizens that were amazing!
Beautiful sample of traditional aboriginal art and oral history. Some experts have stated that our species settled more than 30.000 year in this part of the world, so it’s interesting to see some of their items and stories that their generations learnt long before...
Nice spot and good informative tours. The grounds are free to view.
I had the pleasure of meeting Lucas, who shared some brilliant perspectives on the cultural significance of the items on display, techniques for using them, and what their purposes were. I learnt a lot. Keep up the great work, Lucas, thanks for the connection.
Went on their 1pm walking tour. It was really interesting and the tour guide was happy to field a whole variety of questions. After the walking part mainly along the River Yarra - not far....maybe 500m in distance one-way, we had a part of the tour inside the building seeing objects and maps. On the ground floor inside, there was a really good art exhibition too.
The only public collection in Victoria dedicated solely to Koorie art and culture comprising artefacts, pictures and photographs. Occassionally have exhibitions from artists as well. I thought the displays were quite small, with limited information but it was interesting non the less. I believe that the experience would have been different if I'd managed to make it to a walking tour or free guide around.
