Been here a few times for a meal and held the Wake for my mother here so our family could all share a meal and memories. The Kingsway Bistro was very helpful and got everything sorted for us how we asked, made sure our family had privacy, and were very kind and compassionate. The whole family loved the event and said it was much nicer than a traditional funeral. We have lovely memories now to share.nnThe food is great and they made no issue of each person paying separately and buying drinks at the bar. Food came out promptly even for a big group around 20 and was very enjoyable. Portions are very generous and there’s lots of different types of food available to suit most everyone. Meals have been consistent each time I’ve visited.nnThe Bistro is tastefully decorated and a nice place that’s not too posh but not just a bar type setting. It’s a great place for families, friends, or work lunches. There’s plenty of parking and is wheelchair accessible.
As frequent diners to this hotel, we booked for the Christmas Eve lunch and were met by the grumpy waitress we had had two days earlier.nnLooking at the menu, we selected the seniors Christmas lunch at $35.00 a head.nIt boasted Turkey, leg ham, baked potatoes, carrot, seasonal greens , stuffing, gravy and Cranberry sauce.nnWe both waited with high expectations as people all around us were having these wonderful looking meals delivered and this only heightened our appetites, and then it arrived and the look on the waitress face was a ,'Rather you than me' look..nnIt looked quite lonely on the plate. This little pile of bits. The Turkey tasted well no taste really like it had been boiled then put on a grill for a bit of colour. It was dry and tough, when you tried to cut it to just broke into pieces. The piece of leg ham was about 5 centemetres long and about 4cm wide and curling at the ends and drynThe carrot was boiled to just under mush mode, the Parsnip burnt on the ends and dry, the boiled potatoes were small marble size. It truly was a disappointment. The desert was Christmas pudding with brandy butter custard. The pudding had the consistency of a poor fruit cake being tasteless and dry. Even the brandy butter custard couldn't save it.nnDid we eat it all? No, but our furry four legged friend appeared to enjoy it. Such a shame. This hotel puts out absolutely brilliant food but we felt this dish had little planning and preparation. Better luck next year.
The food is very nice and good quality. Recommend to share the meal if you are not big eater as the potion is quite huge. The restaurant is quite noisy otherwise all good. I came several times. Highly recommend.
Huge menu, great steak, great quality, cold drinks if you go away from here hungry its your own fault. Only negative the room was absolutely freezing to the point I felt I could have worn a jumper in the middle of summer, made our food go cold quick.
$40 for the roast is kind of atrocious. The price on the Sunday roast is so expensive when I get a small portion of meat and burnt yorkie. Disappointed because my family have been going here for years and it’s such a hit or miss. Half the food is either bland or not good and the other half is amazing. It’s been like this for at least 8 years. I would love to love it but for the price point, you’d expect better quality. Also the servers stand around and talk a lot and completely ignore us. I have to call them over in order to get attention and they didn’t even give us water.
