Oakleigh is often crowned Melbourne’s Greek food capital, so I was excited to try my first souvlaki there and started with Kalimera. I kept it simple and ordered the pork gyro.nnThe food came out incredibly quickly, within about five minutes. Unfortunately, I found the pork to be quite dry and a little tough. The fresh salad and tzatziki helped balance it out and made it more enjoyable, but I’ve definitely had juicier and more flavourful pork elsewhere.nnThe chips were a standout in terms of value, with a very generous serving for the price, and they were cooked well. However, they were lacking a bit of seasoning. We ended up ordering a dip and asking for some salt to give them a bit more flavour, as they were quite plain on their own.nnWe also ordered one of the specials from the board, which used pork that wasn’t shaved from the spit and was cooked separately. It took a little longer to come out, but it was significantly better than the standard pork gyro. The meat was much juicier and more tender, and it came with a mustard-based sauce and another sauce that worked really well together. If I were to come back, I’d be ordering this one again without hesitation.nnOverall, I wasn’t overly impressed with my first souvlaki experience in Melbourne’s much-hyped Greek precinct. The standard pork gyro didn’t quite live up to expectations, but the special showed that they can produce something much better when the meat is cooked fresh rather than taken from the spit.
Kalimera Souvlaki in Clayton has become one of our family’s favourite places, and we visit at least once every couple of months because everyone in the family genuinely loves the food there.nTheir souvlakis are always fresh, tasty, and full of flavour. We especially enjoy the skewers, the Greek salad, and the delicious dips they serve. Everything tastes authentic and well made. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the restaurant is always very clean and organised. The service is also consistently friendly and professional.nWe also tried their Greek soft drink, the watermelon and mint flavour, and it was incredibly refreshing and delicious. Definitely something worth trying with the meal.nThe only thing we wish they had was lamb souvlaki, as that would make the menu absolutely perfect for us. But even without it, we keep coming back because the overall experience is always excellent.nHighly recommended for anyone craving great Greek food in Clayton!
Had a lovely meal here. We ordered the chicken platter and everything was fresh, tasty, and cooked beautifully.nnSilvia, the owner, was serving us, and even though she was clearly busy, she still took the time to have a great conversation with us and made us feel really welcome. At the end of the night, as they were wrapping up, she generously gave us the leftover meat for free, which was such a kind and unexpected gesture.nnAmazing food, warm service, and a genuine family-style atmosphere. You can tell they really care about their customers. Would definitely recommend and will be coming back.
Had the pork souvlaki and it was so good, with plenty of pork, very tasty, and great value for the portion size.nnThere’s plenty of parking around the area, making it an easy stop. One of the nice Greek souvlaki spots in Oakleigh. Highly recomended.
April 2026:nBeen coming for years and my family enjoy it for the consistency of quality.nI personally find the souvlaki a slightly smaller than what I would prefer so I usually go the platter. Pricing is fair and the amount was very filling. The quality and taste of ingredients has always been excellent
