Journal Canteen

About

The journal now has a new chef his name is Oscar Yanez . His is passionate about his food . He replaces Anthony and is taking journal to a new level .

Story

The Journal is a venue made up of two businesses; the Cafe and the Canteen.

Given that we are located in the same building as the CAE and the City Library, we attract a diverse bunch of people who come here to create, read, discuss, catch up and simply just chill out over a glass of wine and some antipasto.

The Cafe is a place to have a great coffee and something to simple, yet delicious to eat whilst the Canteen offers simple Italian style food, cooked the traditional way. Anthony sees to this! ;)

Come in and say hi next time your in town.

Love the library of books here and it's right beside Melbourne City Library. The perfect place to have a great coffee and amazing baguettes/toasties. A great study place or somewhere to chat businesss.
Coffee was good and location is perfect!
A bustling cafe, nice host and good coffee. Would prefer the cafe to be slightly brighter, but otherwise, it is a good place for a quick brunch if you are around the area.
We are spoilt with better coffee around every corner in Melbourne but other spots don't come close to this space in terms of environment/ ambience. Menu and drinks are kept quality and simple
Excellent breakfast. Well presented and fabulous flavours. I was slightly disappointed with my coffee as it could have been a lot warmer.
One of my favourite cafes in Melbourne. Interesting and eclectic, owned by John who has been on the scene for some 25 years, a long time ago the holder of DeGraves Cafe in DeGraves Lane
Beautiful coffee ordered a second one straight after, and had the bacon and egg roll with relish. Perfect for a light breakfast and bloody tasty! Would visit again
Great coffee and great atmosphere !
No attention to detail in sight. Got all the basics wrong. No water to the table, got the order wrong, burnt bread, received an overcharged bill.
