Location: Driving e.g. Uber from Strathfield Train Station. Too far to walk. Despite the distance, it is situated on the corner and is situated around other fast food joints. A gym is also located upstairs if you want to burn off the calories after splurging on an over-satisfying meal. Food quality: Ordered lamb biryani, nasi goreng fish, chicken string hopper with pittu unsure of the name, will post pictures to compensate!. Service: Very friendly, warm, and welcoming. Food came out in a timely manner. 10/10 Environment: Large floorplan, a lot of seating, TV e.g. displayed Bollywood music videos, very comfortable. Interesting fact: Offers a BUFFET option that allows you to try a variety of their curries and other options. I can't recall the specific days during the week will get back to edit this once I find out. The food overall, especially my lamb biryani, was really good. The flavors were well-balanced and spicy as expected, but the yogurt and other side really made the spiciness an enjoyable and more enveloping foodie-experience. My friends ordered other dishes string hopper and they were just as good. I believe we had ordered 2 x nasi goreng fish to-go and when I got home I was disappointed that the "fish" was just dried pieces of sardines. However, the overall flavors was diverse and provided for a unique Janani-restaurant experience that was spicy, yet pleasurable for the hot-enthusiast. Another negative was the Masala tea in which tasted a bit watery and like a normal tea concoction summarizing my friend's comments. The Masala tea could have been an anomaly. I gave it 4 stars because at times the spiciness was over-whelming and more tasty-yogurt was necessary and the lack of more "fresh" fish meat in the nasi goreng. But, overall a great experience and would definitely come back to try the curries, dosa, and many other menu options. I'm not so sure about the mishap in the quality that the reviewer below received, but while my friends and I were at the restaurant we met the owner. The owner was great and showed such warm and professional behavior. The other waiter offered good service as well. The restaurant was quite empty, but that could have been because I ate late at night and on a weeknight. Would love to see this place busy. OVERALL: Would recommend for the spicy-enthusiast and spicy-tolerant.
Delicious food- my friends and I were all very impressed. I especially enjoyed the prawn Kothu. Very kind and friendly staff- they tracked me down to return my phone and bank card when I accidentally left them at the venue. I would make this place my regular if I lived nearby. Highly recommended!
Absolutely fantastic authentic food. Everything made from scratch by a wonderful husband and wife. A place that needs to be visited by everyone. My friends and I would drive 3 hours just for the food. The wife knows all about gluten and lactose free food and will make sure you have a safe food experience.
The owner definitely needs to work on staff and food. We had ordered spicy prawn curry and rava masala dosa. Dosa was just okay, sambhar not too good. Prawn curry was terrible. Spicy does not means that you add lots of chilly in a regular meal. I would have been glad if they had told me upfront that prawn curry is not spicy. Naan bread was pathetic, worst naan of my life. Some readymade bread with few seconds is NOT naan. Will never visit here again.
Incredible food. Best Idly I have ever eaten. We were a party of Vegetarians and were all so happy and satisfied. I wish I had a local Janani. The irony is that Janani is situated between 2 major fast food chain stores and so could be missed. Don't miss this Resturant - it's fabulous! 10 Star Dhal & Paneer Entree were also stand outs!
I went for dinner twice and absorbed unprofessional behavior both the visits. First visit, a girl staffwas combing her hair in the dinning area and today a lady applied hair color and was sitting in the reception. Dosa prices are expensive and not good for that price. Not happy and i wouldn't recommend to anyone. This is my last visit to Janani.
One of the best South Indian restaurants in Sydney. Very reasonably priced by Syd standards and has really nice kothu roti and thali meals. Their dosas are very good too.
Wow what an experience. Loved the food so authentic, absolutely delicious !!! Staff were very friendly. Beautiful setting and extra clean. We'll definitely be back. Highly recommended.
I ordered a chicken biriyani and they served me 2 days old. It was directly kept in microwave. Too low quality. Chicken feels too cold. Frozen. Never ever eat here.
Good authentic southern indian sri lankan food. But service is very slow. Definitely need to improve on speed and staffing especially during peak hours.
