We liked the menu, location, and prices. We thought the pasta was a perfect texture and cook and that the sauces were very good but could have been more flavorful with additional seasoning. The cauliflower dish was a delicious addition to the menu; however, it was more of an appetizer size and was also a high percentage stalk in our serving. The pizza in the downstairs restaurant was great!
Had to ask 3 times for a jug of tap water. Rather lengthy wait for one garlic bread as a starter. Very friendly and enthusiastic staff though, made me feel welcomed as a diner. The steak was ordered medium and was more medium-well, and a little to thin for my liking. The flavour however was very nice, thanks to the garlic butter. The sides were a little lacking. Not a mushroom or onion ring in sight. Chips very nice though, just more of them please! Overall easy to recommend. Just don’t order carbonara as it is more a Mac ‘n Cheese and looked fresh out of the microwave.
Good food but bad service. When we arrived, there was no receptionist on site. We had to wait 5+ minutes and just when we were about to leave, someone eventually showed up. We chose to eat at the pizzeria ground floor. We ordered a salad and a garlic-bread "mini-pizza" as starter. Both were delicious. When we were done, the waitress brought one of the two pizzas. I don't know what happened to the other one but we had to wait several minutes until it finally arrived - directly out of the oven which probably means a miscommunication between waitress and kitchen. The pizzas were very tasty and the used ingredients tasted fresh and healthy no greasy pizza, great!. The size could be a bit bigger though, it was a rather smallish pizza. We then ordered dessert and coffee but had to wait more than 25 minutes to get it we got the coffee but not the dessert. In the meantime we tried to wave the waitress to us several times but she didn't react there were a total of 3 ! tables in use, so it was not busy at all. After several minutes of trying to get her attention we finally walked across the restaurant and asked her what's the status of the desserts. She mumbled something that she will check and went upstairs. It took another few minutes when she came back with the desserts and said something that the "system is broken". The desserts were very good, too, by the way. I hope Jamie Oliver reads these reviews to improve things. It's a bummer really because the food was very good at least 4 out of 5 stars but the lack of service pulls the rating down.
Always up to the expectations. Very busy place as all branches, with excellent food and good service. Staff is very polite. Food came exactly as I ordered and fast. Prices are ok. You have the pizzeria downstairs and a proper restaurant upstairs. You will never have a bad lunch or dinner at a Jamie’s.
Very very poor experience. One of the reasons we visited was because of the gluten free menu. There was no bread available and no bun for the burger option. So we opted for just the burger which turned out to be unavailable too!The chips were served almost raw and had to be returned. The chicken dish eventually selected was tough and tasted more like fish! The garlic bread selected by another of our party was very hard and over cooked when it eventually arrived after a prompt to the waitress and after everyone else had finished their Starters! This was removed from the bill. Most starters were cold and the gluten free meatballs were minuscule and served with one lettuce leaf! On the plus side the staff were very friendly. Will definitely not return or recommend.
I was satisfied with the starter- crispy squid was very tasty, good portion for a starter as well. However, when it came to main course- disappointing,it looked better on the menu the pasta was dry, barely had any salmon in it. Service was also lacking, only have been asked once how the food was only after when eating our main course, when asked for the bill the waitress just assumed I was gonna pay cash and placed the bill with a plate on our table and just walked off- had to wait 5 more minutes for her to realise I was paying by card for her to bring a card machine.
It's ok. But don't think it's great value. I love Jamie's recipes for simple but delicious homey or rustic food in good portions. However this place seems to be trying to be more fine dining hence the price, and small portions but doesn't quite cut it. Set menu is alright tho.
We ate upstairs and I'm afraid it wasn't great - the food was average and the service poor. A lesson in restaurant planning, if you have a kitchen that customers can look into, the chefs need to be focussed and cooking. Most of the chefs were messing around, which could explain why the food took so long to arrive! Sorry Jamie, this one's not great. I would also prefer to be able to order pizzas upstairs as I'm not always sure when I walk into a restaurant what I want to eat. However I appreciate that the restaurant is set up so that you have to choose what kind of Italian food you want before you sit down, so I think this is by design...
Attentive staff, well seasoned food, although hardly any bread for the platter, only two small breadsticks and half a bit of sourdough. Vegetable platter was drenched in olive oil - that was a bit heavy and ended up leaving it. However over all food was great, portions were pretty decent and my goodness the dessert was decadent. Anyone who likes desserts to be just the right amount of sweet should try this. Super attentive staff, but allowing us to relax and enjoy rather than being overly efficient. Very pleased and will be going again. Couldn't have asked for a better night.
Very friendly and good service. The "Italian steak" was very well flavoured but very tough. It is a very tough rump. The rest of the food was superb. The Groupon offer seemed good but we ended up another £10 out of pocket when we couldn't use existing offers with upgrades.
