Forgot we’d come here before so made the mistake of returning! Look the venue is very cramped so isn’t the greatest place given soaring case numbers. Service wise it hasn’t exactly improved and I can’t believe as a Thai restaurant they don’t have fresh coconuts! The food was however fine other than the massaman beef which unfortunately was my dish and had quite poor quality meat so I pretty much just poured the sauce over my rice and called it a day Original review My brother in law recently moved to Hawthorn so we chose Fat Boy Thai for family dinner. I knew we were in for good food having visited the Windsor sister restaurant but what I couldn’t anticipate was the very clumsy service. Unfortunately the staff struggled to understand us which didn’t help. We ordered spring rolls and two serves of chicken skewers to start so there was enough for all of us. Only one of the skewers arrived the second appearing midway through our mains after I followed up but we also got one of our mains, the green curry and our two serves of rice. We had ordered coconut rice and got regular so that was sent back. By the time the correct rice arrived which was actually some time later surprising as I assume it’s all in a big pot somewhere the curry was near cold. Highlights however were a very delicious pad Thai and an equally impressive chicken cashew nut which had an extremely flavoursome sauce. It’s a shame the experience was lessened by the clunky service
The food is amazing! Everything I tried was delish. Try tamarind prawns. Cocktails are tasty and beautiful. I tried cosmopolitan and espresso Martini. Will definitely be coming back with friends.Food: 5/5
Foods was soooo good and came so fast , we love all dishes, reasonable price and staffs are so friendly. Definitely will recommend to all friends and want to go back again and again :
I’ve always ordered the cashew nuts and chili jam with tofu and vegetables. This has probably been the worst one. The dish came with only 3 small pieces of tofu. My partners dish pineapple fried rice with tofu came with 1.5 pieces. Unfortunately this is the last time we will be eating from here after ordering and dining in for over 3 years.
Not a bad place for lunch, the place is not too busy around 12, and the service is good. All fresh ingredients that I can see being prepared at the back. Ordered the fried noodles, has a very fresh sweet and sour taste. Will return to try other options definitely.
We came today after a Mother’s Day trip to the zoo. We hadn’t planned a dinner so popped into a few places along glenferrie road which were full or offering only a set menu $75pp no thanks There was 5 of us and my 1 year old. The food came out quickly and was super delicious. We actually ordered more starters after eating all the ones we ordered. The food was really delicious and we all left super happy. The staff were so nice and made us the mums a free cocktail. I would 100% come back
Best Thai in Hawthorn. Crispy pork and pork ribs are top notch. Simply but elegance presentation. They have variety of cocktails too. Will definately coming back.
Burnt burnt burnt. Used to order uber eats here all the time but the last 4-5 times there has been at least one dish that was burnt and the flavour ruined. No matter how big and often I make a note on the order to please DON'T BURN the food. So disappointing, used to really love their food!
I tried Fat Boy Thai Kitchen because I found it in the Entertainment Book which makes me try new places I might not otherwise go to. It's quite small inside, so I'd definitely make a booking as there were a couple of bigger parties seated. There is an upstairs section, but I don't know how big it is up there. One thing I loved was that you couldn't see into the kitchen. I don't love that about restaurants, and was happy not to be able to look in. The menu doesn't stand out from other Thai restaurants. I got my usual Chicken Curry Puffs and my Chicken Fried Rice. The curry puffs were nice, but not outstanding. The fried rice was good, but also nothing more amazing than elsewhere. When the entrees came out, the waitress didn't ask who ordered what. She just put things down in front of all of the wrong people. It came out in a good time frame, but that was a little "unprofessional" if I'm going to be picky. The staff were friendly though, and very accommodating when it came to menu modifications. They got it all right and that's a big plus with me. The only other slight negative was that because the restaurant is quite small, when people wait for their take out orders, they almost stand on top of your table waiting. It's kind of awkward for both them and the diners, but at least some didn't have to wait too long. Overall, I'd recommend Fat Boy Kitchen if you're in the area. It's a good half hour drive for me, so I wouldn't visit again necessarily unless I was in the area and parking can be really bad, but it's well priced, reasonable and friendly service, and tasty.
One of the best Thai restaurants in Melbourne. Love the food and ambience. Nice wine and cocktail list too.Food: 5/5
