Story

HUTT CITY HEALTH CENTRES are your Hutt Valley family-friendly General Practices. Our doctors and nurses offer a full range of primary care services to Lower Hutt and the wider Hutt Valley.

You’ll find our Health Centres centrally located at 5 Raroa Street in Lower Hutt and at 3 The Strand in Wainuiomata.

New patients are welcome.

If you are not currently enrolled with a family GP or local medical practice enrol with us. There's a place for you and a welcome at HUTT CITY HEALTH CARE. Contact our receptionist to arrange a consultation with a doctor or nurse.

Your doctors appointment will be for 15 minutes or if you have multiple problems or complications you can request a 30 minute consultation at one of our Hutt Valley Health Centres.

Our doctors and practice nurses offer complete primary health care to Lower Hutt five days a week. HUTT CITY HEALTH CENTRE is a Cornerstone, Royal NZ College of GPs quality accredited practice.

Have been at this clinic for four and a half years and have just enrolled in another practice as a result of rude doctors and lack of medical assistance.  Today I was refused an appointment for my 2 year old by the triage doctor because he had decided that she wasn’t sick enough despite not seeing her or knowing me or my kids. I asked the doctor point blank to see her and he flatly refused. I am not even sure if that is legal?  This isn’t the first time a triage doctor has mucked me around either. The first time I was told there was no possible appointments for me and the doctor was unsympathetic when I explained I couldn’t make any of the afternoon times he’d suggested. When I viewed the notes for this he’d made a passive aggressive note about me being “a bit upset about this”—I’d been struggling with breathing for days so yes, I was a bit upset that I couldn’t get any medical help.  I understand that these are stressful times for those in the medical profession but the triage system at this practice has resulted in some seriously unethical situations with my family. I can’t imagine how it must be for others who, for example, speak English as a second language or who are not as familiar with the local healthcare system.

Never go to this medical centre. We have moved away for a good. Either you are sick or your baby , doctors just not helpful. Better go to after hours than this place !!

Absolutely fantastic service, was extremely impressed at the quick turnaround from my initial call, to speaking to the nurse and then the doctor. Very friendly reception staff too, keep up the great work especially during these troubling times. You guys rock!

I have had continuous issues with this practice - once I ordered a script on a Thursday and was called on Friday at 4.30pm to say I had to pay for the script before they would send it through to the pharmacy and then when I had paid over the phone, they said that they would send it out on Tuesday Monday was a public holiday. They then waited another day Thursday morning to tell me that my payment didn't go through and I would have to pay again.  It was really lucky that I didn't need the script ASAP, otherwise I would have been a week without my meds. Also paying $22 to send a digital script through to a pharmacy is ridiculous, especially as they mix up your scripts so often. I have had upwards of 4 times where they sent the wrong script to my pharmacy and then tried to make me pay for them resending it.

No appointments available whenever you call, changed my medical centre .

I was a patient at this clinic when it first opened until 4 years ago when I shifted south..  I am sorry to hear the clinic has gone down I used to have to attend monthly and all the doctors were great no complaints.  The reception staff   apart from one  blonde girl were pretty average a little training in pr would help I never had a problem  with the nurses.

The service is shocking. Takes so long to get an appointment or an update. I tried making an appointment today 3rd Dec and the earliest appointment given was 11th Jan. The receptionist was quite rude and told me togo to after hours. This is ridiculous. Doctors are  also constantly leaving the centre which makes things difficult. I would have rated this with no stars if it was possible

Went in with cough to get a covid test. Dr did test but didn't think it was covid so prescribed antibiotics. Dr said I didn't need to pay as I was coming in for Covid test and it's covered. But have since been told I need to pay since he prescribed me medication. That was never stated. Poor communication.  I have since been contacted and the situation has been dealt with.

Called needing emergency medication, person I spoke to showed zero empathy and couldn't even provide any helpful work around. Wasn't until I spoke directly to a pharmacy that I was suggest to come in and get an emergency 3 day supply. My family and I are now changing doctors as a result.

New review: always fully booked and I hardly ever get to see the same doctor. I've had mixed experiences with the doctor's here, some are thorough while others make me feel rushed.  Old review 4 stars: Dr walker was great, so friendly and very thorough. Never made me feel rushed and took the time to explain things I asked about. However, just found out she's left which is disappointing. Haven't had any other doctors yet. The walk in clinic is a good idea, but a bit unreliable.
