Story

HGYS has been teaching and performing Martial Arts, Lion Dance and Drumming for over 25 years.

We train and perform all year round, feel free to drop us a line on our wall or at [email protected] for performance and membership inquiries!

General training is every Sunday 9am-12:30pm, all are welcome!

HGYS Martial Arts School is a Non Profit Incorporated Association under laws of the State of Victoria. HGYS' objective is to spread Chinese and East Asian culture through the performance and practice of Chinese Lion Dance, the martial arts of Hung Gar Kuen and Tai Jitsu, and the Chinese and Japanese drum.

"Our club started in 1986 by 6 friends who were trained in Lion Dance, Chinese Hung Gar Kuen and Japanese Jiujutsu. Wanting to push their knowledge further and pass on their teachings to more students they started their own school. This was the beginning of the Hung Gar Yau Shu Martial Arts School.Today the school has added Taiko drumming, Chinese Dragon Dance and Tai Chi making us one of the most versatile performing organisations in Melbourne.We accept students of all creeds, cultures and backgrounds and focus on promoting the ideas of discipline, respect and co-operation."
