I visited Howler on March 1st during the Sydney Road Street Festival, which had live music happening all along the strip including a seriously stacked lineup at Howler itself. We headed in around midday and it was packed, but the space is so open that it never felt too overwhelming. People were gathered around the front for the live set, and the energy was unreal. It’s pretty easy to get to as well, we parked nearby for the festival, but there are trams just a short walk away, and outside of big events there’s usually a larger car park out the front.nnThe venue has this cool warehouse/factory vibe, but what really makes it stand out is all the greenery and the skylights that open the space up with natural light. It feels big, airy, and really well designed. Out the back there’s a darker bar area with more booth style seating, which is a nice contrast to the open front section. We grabbed some drinks and found a spot in the crowd to watch the performance, then later took a seat on one of the old school couches while waiting for a turn in the little photo booth they’ve got set up. It’s those small details that make the place feel really fun and unique. I know they also have a kitchen, but we didn’t end up eating this time.nnWe left to explore more of the festival and then came back later in the day, which ended up being perfect. The live music had wrapped up, but DJs had taken over and there was more space to move, dance, and just enjoy the vibe without the heavy crowd. What I really love about Howler is how much they support local artists, it feels like a hub for live music and creative events. The staff were super helpful all day, even with the chaos of the festival, and there was security around which made everything feel safe and well managed.nnOverall, I absolutely loved it. It’s got that classic Brunswick energy. Whether it’s a live gig or a DJ set, this is definitely one of those must visit spots in Melbourne.
Had a great meal at Howler with my partner. The chicken parmigiana was really tasty and the calamari salad was fresh and well done. Paired it with a Corona, which was perfect with the meal.nnTip: check EatClub before you go, you can sometimes get a pretty good discount.nnReally like the vibe of the venue too. As a musician, I appreciated the sound system, and it looks like they have DJ nights, so I’ll definitely come back in the evening.
Had an amazing time at Howler yesterday seeing A-Skill and The Freestylers with a friend visiting from overseas. Absolutely perfect Sunday session.nnThe arvo vibe was unreal — having daylight streaming in through the clear roof made it feel like a big private courtyard party rather than a typical club gig. Great sound, plenty of room to dance, and the crowd was spot on — everyone there purely to have a good time.nnStaff were super friendly and welcoming, which always makes a difference. One of those gigs where everything just clicks. Can’t recommend Howler enough for day parties and quality electronic shows.
Food great, next time we will book a sea! Bine even with the band out the back and two private function still great.nnNeed more bar tenders and busies on a Saturday night though. Not enough bar tenders to serve but they were also having to run out back and get glasses.nnSecurity really nice guys with sharp eyes.nnNeed AC in the band room, hate to see it in summer but a brilliant space.
I visited the place on Sunday, and to my surprise, it wasn't very busy at all, which made for a pleasant dining experience. The ambiance was relaxed , perfect for enjoying a meal without feeling rushed. I decided to try the steak, and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. It was cooked to perfection, with a juicy tenderness and rich flavor that made every bite a delight. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly delicious dish!
