Wonderful experience. Excellent drive through farmlands and countryside on a tour bus to get to the location, complete with bus driver ramblings on local history. Hobbiton was a treat. The guide had to get us through it a little quickly for my tastes, but it's understandable considering the volume of tourists coming there. Great little tour through the Hobbiton, which worked both as a middle Earth fantasy experience and as a look into how a movie set works. Ended at the green dragon tavern for a meat pie and a cider. Lots of interesting stories and great picture opportunities. Would recommend to anybody who is in the area and enjoys Tolkien or movies in general.

Amazing atmosphere there with this valley look like heaven... I am not a big fun of the Lord of the Rings but I totally enjoyed my time there... peaceful place with stunning views and the work they did there in this theme park is absolutely unbelievable... also the dragon Inn was wonderful place and you can have a drink and something to eat... I stayed there for 3 hours with the pack I booked but I wish to stay longer and soak everything of this place... they do some days of the weekend a supper late at night at the dragon inn so definitely I will return back soon to experience this event... also they guide tours doing a wonderful job and all of them are so kind... P.S. another thing I liked is that from Matamata village you can take the bus to the Movie set park and the driver puts small videos of the background of the movies to the screen and you get a taste of them, so you can have an idea what’s it’s like even if you never saw the Trilogies... excellent park and work they did there...

It was a wonderful experience. We did the night banquet. We had two lovely guides who toured us through hobbington and shred a lot of interesting new insight about the movie set with us. We ended up in the green dragon, for a very nice beer and a feast worth a hobbit. The food was amazing and it was a great experience. After that we did a night walk through the lighted up shire and ended our time with a hobbit dance. Worth every penny! Do it. :)

Everything is really good. I like that we get a bus to get there because parking would be a nightmare otherwise. The driver tells you a little bit about the land the movie set is on before introducing to your tour guide. Our tour guide was really informative and funny. We saw their staff working in the gardens as we walked through. It was great to see they hire many people to keep the site well maintained (and providing employment). You also get a complimentary beer at the end of the tour - we got the tour without the food My only complaint is that the tour was really short. I wish we got enough time each level to just look and appreciate all the work that was put in. And none of the Hobbit holes allowed people to go inside. When we get the beer at the end, you are rushed to finish it. I think the whole experience, including the bus rides took 2.5 hours.

Even if you haven't seen "The Lord of the Rings" or "The Hobbit", this experience will give you lasting memories. Note, I am a major fan of the books and films. The short bus ride prepares you for your visit, giving you interesting facts about the area and filming process with a video featuring the director and land owner. Hobbiton itself was perfect. It looked like it was just inhabited by hobbits earlier in the morning. Gardens growing, smoke coming from chimneys, ducks doing their thing in the pond. A tour guide shows you around giving you all the information about the areas you're seeing. You finish off with free drinks in The Green Dragon. I'd highly recommend getting the first tour, as every view you have is devoid of people. Seeing The Shire at its purest. This is a must see in my opinion when visiting the North Island.
