Story

Hanuman Darwin first opened its doors in 1992. Originally located at the Bennet Street end of Mitchell Street, the restaurant moved to its current location in late 2007.

We are delighted with the new space. As part of the Holiday Inn Esplanade complex, the restaurant incorporates a beautiful deck dining area and stylish cocktail bar.

With seating for 90 people outside and a further 90 inside, be prepared to immerse yourself in a truly exotic experience. The furnishings, tableware and artworks have been sourced from around the world and the lighting will take your breath away.

It is a bit of a shame to give Hanuman 3 stars. I have heard a lot about it and was looking forward to it. The positives first. The food was flawless, genuinely great food. Authentic, spicy, delicious and on time. Cudos to the kitchen crew, they were the true saving grace. The wine list also was a plus, not extensive but considered, intelligent and reasonably priced. Sadly the service left a lot to be desired. I won't blame the table staff because the issue's seemed to be about training, leadership and structure. It was clumsy and amateurish. Pouring your own water from plastic carafes wasn't the best start. Drink orders went missing more often than not, they were slow to come and when they did they were regularly wrong. Plate handling were awkward to watch. A venue where staff look afraid to make a mistake rather than confident enough to overcome one, like they are suffering rather than enjoying themselves makes for an unpleasant environment. We were part of a courteous group that finished with a solid 4 figure bill, a bill that was paid for without solitary word. No 'I hope you enjoyed your night', no 'we hope you to see you again', not even a thank you, nothing. Stand tall kitchen crew, you rescued a disaster.

We have been to this restaurant for 9 years now. Very consistent with their food standard, quality and taste. Very relieving to know there is one restaurant in Alice springs you can always get what tour expect. Good on ya guys... doing a good job...

Enjoyable food. Good atmosphere. Very good service. Although if your glass gets too close to half empty start ordering your next drink.

The food is good, solid asian flavours and cooked well. We had booked for the Wednesday night, the service was not great, not enough staff for customers. One waitress was very friendly but she was very busy. The main room near the bar is like a pub dinning room, it is rather worn and needs a real refresh. Would I return, NO, not for the price you pay for the experience. This used to be the goto place in Darwin at some point, it now feels worn and living on its former glories. The food gets it three stars.
