Habitat for Humanity (Northland)

About

Habitat for Humanity (Northland) is a not-for-profit organisation with the ultimate goal of eliminating poverty housing.

Story

About Us

Habitat for Humanity (Northland) was founded in January 1995. Our first house was dedicated in December of that year. Since then, we have helped build 36 homes. We currently support 25 families from Waipu in the south, to Kaitaia in the north, to Dargaville in the West and lots of places in between.
Housing Need In Northland

Habitat’s vision to eliminate substandard housing by building simple, decent houses and then selling them on an affordable basis continues to be as relevant in Northland today as when we started here in 1995. It is a region that has high unemployment, a poor economic base, and many families living in poverty. Northland, particularly in its rural areas, is regarded as one of the areas of NZ in the greatest need of improved housing with many substandard houses lacking adequate heating and insulation.

For most families assisted by Habitat their previous housing experience has been little more than a roof over their heads – a combination of paying high rent for substandard accommodation; or living in a shack, sheds or caravans; or sharing a place with other family members in an overcrowded situation.

Mission

Habitat for Humanity is an international not-for-profit organisation. The ultimate goal of Habitat for Humanity is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the face of the earth by building adequate and basic housing.

Habitat relies heavily on the generosity of our volunteers who give us their time to help build homes with our partner families. There are a number of ways that you can get involved, both in New Zealand, and overseas through our Global Village programme.

Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity is a great way to learn new skills, meet new people and give back to the community.

Large format store with all manner of goods on display. Cheap and plentiful assortment. Easy access. Good parking. Pleasant team. Funds are used to build housing for low-income families NZ wide. Amazing legacy being built here and internationally. Check their website.
Awesome 2nd hand shop, got a nice Xmas tree for a quarter of the price for a new one, even had decorations on it, $25
Great place - nabbed a few bargains and wonderful friendly service
My best spot for hunting "treasure".. I'm new in this town but when I knew this store, was blowing my mind.. Huge range of everythings.. Good bargain.. And of course friendly staff.. I'm not actually fans of second hand stuff before, until today.. :- and it's been couple times visited this store.. Always found something unique and usable. Also, Happy to contribute something to help people needed. Really recommended!
Great place for whatever you are looking for. Brilliant range of all sorts of secondhand stuff, stote getting a bit messy on my last visit 23 Sept 22
People are always so friendly behind the counter, no matter what always walk out with what I was looking for! Great place to shop, and I love donating.
A nice second-hand shop for a charity. In general, they sell good things. Regularly you will also find some colector items.
Friendly service lots of goodies. for good price.
Okay store. Somethings are over priced, other things are a good deal. The ladies working there are quite rude and are very slow. Made me feel like trash before i left the store.
My "go to" place for variety and good pricing of second hand goods. You never know what you will find - from bedding to tools, chairs, electronic goods and bric-a-brac. The service is friendly and always with a smile! A lot of items are not priced but you can get staff to come and price it for you, promptly. Clothing is $1 per item and the staff are always laughing and cheerful. Best place to visit, browse and buy in Whangarei.
