Greenwood Hotel

About

North Sydney Institution The Greenwood hotel, hosts 4 bars, 2 large sun filled outdoor courtyards, and great function facilities available!

Story

The grand Greenwood Hotel was built in 1878, originally as a church and later also used as a school. In 1992 it was bought and turned into a pub, soon becoming one of the North side’s most talked about venues.

When it comes to functions, let the Greenwood take the fuss out of organising your next function or event. With 4 bars and 2 sundrenched courtyards to choose from, Greenwood can cater for groups as small as 15 right up to 1500 guests. Room hire is free and there is no minimum spend.

AHA NSW Chef of the Year heads the kitchen at Greenwood. Executive Chef, Brad Sloane’s seasonal modern cuisine can be crafted to suit any budget and format, from canapés and cocktails to long, lazy lunches.

"The grand Greenwood Hotel is a historic drinking and dining institution, located on Blue Street in the heart of North Sydney. Originally built in 1878 as a school, The Greenwood Hotel became a popular social destination in 1992 when it was turned into a pub."

Highly recommend the BBQ pork Saigon burger. Best burger I've had in a long time. Super juicy pork, tangy coleslaw and a lovely sweet umami sauce. Delish. Nice setting, looks like an old church though I think it might be an old school. Nice and warm even outside due to heaters.
It’s pretty much ‘Green Wood’ in the famously dull and boring North Sydney. Good Wagyu burger, quality French fries and cold beers, what else do you need? Greenwood hotel is the survivor and it has been around for a while. Probably same as the roast pork Chinese takeaway joint nearby. It’s pretty much an Oasis in North Sydney, and when you’re thirsty it’s a good place to dive in for some coldies For these reasons I give this place 3 bears
Lovely old building. the timber work in the ceiling/roof is next level carpentry. Beer prices were almost as steep as the roof pitch $14 a pint. Loads of seating and staff were ok to good. Definitely worth popping in for a pint just to see the building.
Good chilled place to have drinks and a pub lunch during the day.
Great spot with good food, turns very night club like on a Friday evening.
Lovely airy and light filled venue which is great in the summer. Food is solid without blowing you away but you won't go wrong either. Good quality pub grub and great selection of beers for you as well. One of the best pubs in North Sydney in my opinion
Not a bad place to get lunch for a group. Food is nothing amazing I had the steak which was a bit undercooked for medium, and head a lot of fat especially for the price, but does the job. Service is good and it's a great setting. The safety precautions at the moment are pretty solid for the current climate with scanning on entry. Menus are only presented in phone scan format which is a bit annoying honestly it could be on a wall poster and that'll still be socially aware but a small inconvenience really. Love the old building, and there's good space inside and out and a handy location to the train or buses.
I went to an event at this pub. The event was poorly organised. But the Greenwood Hotel is very lovely. I love the high ceilings and the old look. My mum ordered a Wagyu burger and the meat was raw not sure if that's how they meant to cook it but it wasn't nice. The location of this place is really good as the train station is right across the street. I'd like to visit this place in summer as the outside area is gorgeous.
I was visiting Sydney with a close friend of mine and as we were staying in North Sydney - we wanted to pass by and have some drinks on Sunday afternoon. The place was pretty packed and there was a good DJ. As anywhere in Australia, alcohol was being consumed excessively yet the vibes were good. While we were dancing, one of the security guards approached me and asked me to leave the venue. I was pretty surprised and I requested a reason why I am being asked to leave the place. I was told that I was intoxicated. I did reply to the gentleman named Chris that everybody in this venue are intoxicated however I was shown the door with physical arm force. After some useless conversation, we were put on the door. I asked permission to talk the security manager but I denied access. Security Guard Chris was obviously pretty racist and did have no clue about my level of alcohol... I dont recommend anyone to visit this place as it has a racist stance and dont seem to educate their security team on good manners. Try somewhere else... Aussies are very kind and welcoming - this place is not.
I don’t think I’ve ever been to such a poorly designed live music venue. The DJ is on a raised platform area which can only hold 20% of attendees. Therefore if you’re not this platform you can’t see the DJ and the sound quality is awful. Everyone else has to hang around the outside and watch the constant struggle of people try for crawl their way onto the sweaty platform
