What a brilliant walk, scenery is amazing. Birdlife is plentiful. Some of the paths need a bit of TLC as they are uneven and narrow when bikers come speeding past. Share with care. A fair bit of litter, come on people don’t be like this and keep your litter until you get to a bin which is provided by the carpark.
The boardwalk has been named after Roger Sutton, who dedicated his life to the conservation and protection of the area. Sutton was a pioneer in controlling the invasive Spartina grass that was taking over the estuary and made significant contributions towards restoring the native wildlife.nnThe boardwalk is a trail highlight and makes for a perfect photo spot. At high tide, the water rises to the bottom of the boardwalk, and the local swans and ducks often enjoy swimming here.
Gorgeous walk, lots of birds to be seen such as swans, spoonbills, herons and many more. It's a wide flat gravelled track with some wooden board walk. Good for biking. If you do the loop around the lagoon, it's about an hour long walk but you could do longer or shorter walks too. Great views to Stewart island, Green hills and Bluff. It's also a good spot for aurora viewing.
A nice place for a walk. You can park on Bluff Hwy or Kew Rd, cross the train tracks and start your walk. Most of the time you can see royal spoonbills nearby.
Not sure what the hype is but we read it was a must do activity. Well, the boardwalk is so short and the rest of the track is hard gravel no where near the water. Yes there were a lot of swans in the distance but most of the hour loop was not near the water. We were really disappointed. If you are a local it would be a nice walk to do but as a tourist activity it is not worth it. And as I stated the boardwalk itself is very short.
