Worst samurai bowl in Christchurch. The karaage chicken was not fresh and tasted like it was reheated. The curry was lumpy and didn't taste the same as the other two branches which have always been good and consistent . Huge let down
Been a Samural Bowl regular for many years. Was really happy at first they opened one in Papanui which is close to us. The interior is largely untouched from the predecessor Edo Japanese which is still quite new. But the whole experience is nothing like the Samural Bowl I know. - Maybe it's the time we visited 2pm on a Saturday but it was way understaffed. There was no one to greet us or take our order. Had to ring the bell a number of times to get the only staff to come out of the kitchen. - The drink fridge only opens to the inside of the counter. I stood there for a few minutes not knowing what to do about my coke. Ended up stepping inside the counter to get the drink for myself. - There's a foosball table in the place which struck me as odd. Then someone went on to play it. Loud noises and shouting ensued. For 10 minutes my partner and I couldn't hear each other and almost had a heart attack. Staff did nothing about it. - The ramen was underwhelming but maybe that was affected by the poor experience. It was really a 1-star experience but giving it 2 stars in hopes of improvement.
Its a hard call for me, I like the decor better here and at Wairakei than at the city branch, but I like the food a bit more at the town one, though I'm basing that on only one meal here so far, but after dining here, I think both here and town have the edge on Wairakei. On balance I'd say this is the one to go to for a nice meal or a date, go to city for lunch.
Severely understaffed on a Saturday night! 1 poor staff serving 30 people, cooking and washing dishes at the same time!!!! How could that work?! I feel bad for the staff here! Otherwise the food was alright and was relatively a nice comfy place to eat.
I really like it here, the location is not quite as convenient for me as the city one, but the restaurant itself is modern, well laid out, and the food is just as good as the city one in my opinion, particularly fond of the Chicken Yakisoba.
Ordered online and went to pick up my order at 6.00pm on a Friday evening to find the place shut and no signs of it opening or having received my prepaid order - was told to go to Colombo St and they might cook the order for me. Appalling service, would definitely not recommend.
Pretty good, I'm slightly more partial to the city branch as its busier and I like the hustle and bustle, but the foosball table was pretty cool and the dumplings are fanatastic.
Great tasting food! On the evening I visited, there was only 1 person at counter and was the chef as well..and so it took 20 - 30mins to get food.
This is my fav Sam Bowl but it is never open And I feel really bad for the 1 staff member serving everybody - hire more staff!
Awesome little place, friendly staff n great food
