This stunning railway station is a tourist attraction in Dunedin and one of the stops on the Hop on/hop off bus tour. This beautiful station is as much a museum as a functioning railway station and it's been lovingly restored maintaining that old world feel. It has that gingerbread house look about it. You can can wander through the station and admire the mosaic floor tiles, the beautiful stained glass windows and the original ticket counters. There is an art gallery and nick nack shop upstairs. The Otago Farmers Market are open here on Saturday mornings which sell local food and produce. We did not take a train journey, just enjoyed visiting the station and devouring delicious fruit that we purchased at the markets.  Well worth a visit.

Lovely 'gingerbread" architecture. Pleasant grounds. Not too crowded. I'd recommend a brief visit: only 10~15 mins walk from The Octagon.

Sightseeing trains run from the station through the Taieri Gorge and up the Otago Coast.

Weekly Saturday markets are held in Anzac Square, just outside the station.

Very pleasant excursion. Station very nice, train journey exceptional. Scenery spectacular. Plenty of photo opportunities.

Classic colonial architecture; the most photographed building in New zealand?!
The art gallery is well worth a look around.
