Dreamworld

Story

BuzzSaw is a Maurer Söhne SkyLoop roller coaster located within the Town of Gold Rush section of the Dreamworld amusement park on the Gold Coast of Australia. The ride began operation on 17 September 2011 as part of Dreamworld's 30th birthday celebrations.BuzzSaw is one of Dreamworld's "Big 9" thrill rides and has a track length of. The steel ride consists of a single train which holds 12 riders and lasts approximately 50 seconds. BuzzSaw features the tallest inversion in the Southern Hemisphere and is currently the second-highest inversion of its type in the world. The ride is themed around a series of unexplainable occurrences in the Town of Gold Rush which date back to the late 1800s. The setting is based on encounters with the ghost of one Jack Darke, who was killed by a buzz saw at a sawmill built after the gold rush ended.HistoryIn December 2009, a Gold Coast Bulletin report detailed a variety of new attractions for the region's theme parks and stated that Dreamworld was in negotiations with a manufacturer to add to its "Big 6" thrill rides. In February 2011, Dreamworld's operator, Ardent Leisure, announced the addition of two new rides in 2011 as part of Dreamworld's 30th Birthday. In April 2011, it was announced that in addition to a family thrill ride (Shockwave which opened in June 2011), another major ride would be opened in time for the September school holidays. The name "BuzzSaw" was confirmed two months later by the park's outgoing CEO, Noel Dempsey, who also confirmed plans to team up with DreamWorks Animation. Vertical construction for BuzzSaw started around the same time.

Seems to vary depending on the day and time of season, but if you're able to avoid it during school holidays or weekends then the queues are a lot more manageable. I've been once in early December and once again in February. Most staff were helpful but we did encounter one staff member who just wasn't interested when I mentioned my father's restraint on a ride was actually hurting him. We attempted to ask her a few times if he could swap to a different restraint, but she just powered through checking the rest of the restraints and told him to just enjoy the ride. He is a fit man but we were both genuinely concerned he'd hurt his back. We were relieved it didn't result in permanent injury, but I did wonder what would have happened if my dad's gut feeling was right and something went wrong while the ride was operating, since the ride operator didn't want to know about it. Most of the rides we tried were the more extreme rides, and we enjoyed most of them, but I had a really bad experience on the "Wedgie" slide which is a sheer drop water slide. The seams on the slide were quite sharp and scraped my bare back all the way down the slide. When I got up with an aching raw back and told the staff, they shrugged it off and said, "yeah it's just how the ride is". If the staff had warned me that this was so common for riders to experience, I wouldn't have gone on it, it just sucked. Good points of the park were easy to operate lockers (for a fee), being able to queue under shade cloths at Whitewater World, and the photo passes which, if you go in a larger group, tend to be worthwhile. Points for improvement could be having more access to free sunscreen (we could only see kiosks selling it, but this really could be a service offered to guests who have already paid just to be there and may leave early if the sun is burning them; some people are more likely to just go without sunscreen if they have to buy an overpriced bottle). Introducing a conveyor belt for some of the tubes/mats at Whitewater World would also make queueing a lot easier and make the wait more bearable on busy days.

Rides are pretty old and I did not fit in most of them. Tiger show is good, but you always feel that Tigers dont belong where they are keeping them, so I was sad about it. Overall, fun day for family. They can have more places to eat as there was only one restaurant that we could find and that operated between 11am -230pm only.

The best theme park in Australia. So original, the workers work so hard to ensure we are all happy. Lots of multicultural activities and a huge variety of rides! Love it! Been going since I was 6 months old too! Never get enough!

We did the tiger cub experience for my my mum's 87th birthday-spectacular service and attention, staff tried very hard to be fair to everyone and did everything possible to ensure people had as many chances as possible to get up close with the gorgeous girls without forcing or upsetting the animals..impeccable care for animals and humans alike. Mum was given a birthday badge so all day strangers...staff and guests made her feel very special with a warm "happy birthday Eileen" message. Thank you Dreamworld for a fabulous day and some wonderful memories! Love your work 😁
