I am pleased to give Dr Stephen Byrne a very high recommendation for his excellent diagnosis and operation on my lower spine. In our initial meeting he discussed my history of back problems, and the possible options for treatment. I am 81 and had a spinal fusion about 12 years ago. For the best long term result I chose to have a laminectomy and discectomy as the pain was definitely affecting my quality of life, and I wanted a long term solution. Within 10 days I was in the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital. The operation was very successful and now, 4 weeks after it, I have very good mobility, the sciatic nerve pain down my leg is no longer present, and I am looking forward to returning to my walking and exercise routines very soon. Top marks to Dr Byrne, and also to the Hospital and staff for looking after me so well. All this and only 10 km from home!

I can only speak very highly of the way that Dr Byrne and his team proceeded with the MRI's and other scans prior to having my operation on my lower back. It was so successful that 2 hours after the operation I could stand upright for the first time in over 7 months and absolutely no pain at all. Previously doctors had sent me for physio and injections  but had no relief at all. Thank you so much Dr Steven Byrne for allowing me to walk and do normal things again

Exceptional and professional in everything they do. Reception staff got the ball rolling by getting me an appointment as soon as possible. Stephen clearly identified my issues and explained my options. I had immediate pain relief after surgery and received great support from Stephen’s clinical nurse throughout. I had a very good experience with the care provided by Dr Byrne. I had sciatic pain from a herniated disc. Dr Byrne explained very clearly the options and operation. Dr Byrne was easy to talk to and didn't rush our appointment. The operation went well and I was on my feet pain free the next day. Thank you Dr Byrne and your staff.

I Raymond Feltman was in pain caused by my back for in excess of nine months. During this time I under went many minor procedures, including injections, manipulations, nothing relieved the pain. Just on one year ago I had the misfortune of having a bad fall off my mountain bike which resulted in a bulging disc between the C7 & T1 vertebrae. The bulging disc was putting pressure on the ulnar nerve which resulted in weakness and a lack of co-ordination in my left hand. My good fortune was having my doctor, Dr Grandison, suggest I see Dr Byrne and to get his point of view. Dr Byrne ran through what what had happened to my neck and recommended surgery to fuse the two vertebrae and to replace the damaged disc with a synthetic one. This would take the pressure off the nerve allowing for better movement in my hand . I was somewhat reticent about having to under the knife but I did my research and felt confident in Dr Byrne's training, experience and skill. It has now been six months since the operation and I have had  my final meeting with Dr Byrne and the review of the CT scan of my neck shows that the cervical plate is bedded in nicely and he is happy with my recovery. I would highly recommend Dr Byrne and his team for any neurosurgery that you may have need for.

I can’t speak highly enough of Dr Byrne and his caring team. I was greeted at reception  by Jackie. Chris the practice manager made my hospital admission and paperwork so easy. She took time to explain the process very clearly and kindly. And Vikki the nurse was just as amazing. I was extremely anxious as my surgery was quite complicated, but the stuff made me feel so comfortable. I live on the Sunshine Coast so it is wonderful that we have such a skilled surgeon and team operating locally. Thanks Stephen Byrne.

I am a 62 year old mother of 3 and grandmother to 6 and have suffered with Rheumatoid Arthritis for over 40 years, after injuring my back in January 2022 I had severe sciatica and nerve tingling down my left hand leg to my knee and was referred to Dr Byrne who discovered that an extruded disk at L2 was impinging on my nerves and with the added complication of my R arthritis and general degeneration associated with this,  Dr Byrne contemplated how he could help, and it was decided to preform spinal fusion of L1-L3 and remove the extruded L2 disk.  It was very well explained to me by Dr Byrne what to expect and I had the operation at Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital on 20th May, 2022 …. I feel very lucky to have been able to have this sort of Medical care in a world class facility with such an amazing neurosurgeon as Dr Byrne and his team local on the Sunshine Coast instead of having to travel more than an hour and a half to Brisbane. It was not only convenient for me, but also for my family and friends to be able to visit me.  I have just had my 6 week post operative consultation with Dr Byrne and am very pleased with my progress and my nerve pain relief.   I highly recommend Dr Byrne and all of his team and feel so thankful to have such high level care available locally on the Sunshine Coast.
