What a brilliant surgeon. I met Jason in September 2021 and after a number of x-rays, it was agreed that a hip replacement would greatly benefit my health. Jason explained, in layman’s terms, what was to follow and true to his word, performed his magic. I expected a great deal of pain, but surprisingly, there wasn’t any. I was walking on crutches, mid morning after my hip replacement. I cannot sing Jason’s praises high enough. He and his staff have been professional, courteous and extremely helpful throughout the entire experience. Nothing was a problem for this team. I would, without hesitation, highly recommend Jason and his staff to anyone seeking Orthopedic assistance. Jason, you are a legend - thank you for everything you have done for me.
Excellent surgeon. I have had five surgeries including shoulder, ankle, big toe and knee with Dr McDarra. Dr McDarra found the issue with my shoulder after my initial surgery 17 years ago failed different surgeon and no one else had been able to diagnose it. Extremely professional, with a pleasant bedside manner that genuinely cares for the patient. Highly recommended and will be seeing him for any future issues.
I would like to thank Jason McDarra, he has now done Surgery on my Husband has had 3and Daughter both were very happy. Both have made a great recovery, and are back doing what they love. You are very professional and do wonderful work.

Personally do not recommend. I found his bed side manners unprofessional and a lack of care towards my concerns. Completely disregarded my knowledge of first surgery not being done properly. Requested second opinion and further imaging which proved my concerns were in fact correct. Second surgery done however still did not fix the problem. Work cover related thankfully as if this was done privately, I'd be looking at suing. I am worse now than I was before the two surgeries both physically and mentally and his opinion is completely different to numerous other medical advice who are better trained in this area.
Following my total hip replacement which enabled me to walk pain free I can recommend Dr Jason McDarra to anyone requiring his orthopaedic surgery . His expertise is without question and his after care faultless. His staff are friendly helpful and professional at all times and have my sincere thanks.
After having a left hip replacement performed in 2012 by another Townsville surgeon I turned to Dr MacDarra for help. Having read the article on him in the Townsville Bulletin about the corrective surgery he had carried out on a jockey so that he could ride a horse once again. Dr MacDarra ability and surgical skills resulted in the jockey being able to return to the saddle within two years of surgery. The surgeon who performed my left hip replacement made me 23 mm longer in my leg which intern threw my walking gate and back out. I ended up having to have a built up right shoe. Having consulted Dr McDarra, about my right hip replacement he was astonished that I had been left with a length of 23 mm out of kilt. His explanation on hisreplacement hip procedure and how he could correct the length discrepancy was clear and precise. I went with the surgery in 2020 and as a result I no longer have to wear built up footwear. Dr MacDarra follow ups after surgery we’re great. He treated one as a human, not just another number. I have now asked Dr McDarra if he could repair my right shoulder which was done in 2004 by another residing Townsville surgeon. I am now awaiting confirmation of my admission into the Mater Hospital for surgery on the 2 November 21. If there is a deferment of my surgery due to some indiscretion on the Dr. Part, I say to the ‘boar’ move on. You are holding back a surgeon who has clearly got runs on the board and making his patient’s suffer with him. Allan Read
