Was Referred here unfortunately no one answers the phone and no one is even at the practice when google says they are open, Minus 5 Stars.
Had my first consult with Dr Basit Mirza today regarding my acne - first impressions are that he's a wonderful and thorough dermatologist. Even with my referral and list of medications sitting in front of him, he made sure to still ask me questions about them - it's nice to know that he was interested in hearing things from my perspective as well. My consult didn't feel rushed at all either, and he went through all of the risks/benefits related to my treatment and was definitely helpful. He has a great rapport with his clients and I highly recommend.
This is my first google review ever. This experience really annoyed me so I felt I had to. I’ve been to see Mirza about 5 times in 3 years and always assumed he was doing the right thing and as good as any dermatologist as my GP referred him. Ive never had to see a specialist and having a skin condition is a bit embarrassing so I always just assumed I’m getting the treatment I require and ask no questions. I know question everything. Today I was 4 mins late due to traffic always wait 5-10mins for him regardless it’s my bad and I apologised to him and reception. I was in for a follow up, he kept going on about useless things that aren’t relevant to me like different types of issues and government funding on meds etc. I was honestly having to guide him as to what I do next. Then as I waited at reception for them to look at next available dates etc the say it’ll be $220. At this stage it’s been 27 mins since my appointment started, including the 4 mins I was late. I said sorry I didn’t get any treatments or anything and this is the shortest period of time in one appointment are you sure that’s the right price as it’s $100 more than any other follow up to date ? She called Mirza as I stood there he’s in the next room and then got off the phone and said no it’s right. I said sorry why? She shrugged and said sorry and kinda seemed like she got this a lot, actually felt sorry for her. She said she will bring it up with him. I paid and I cancelled my follow appointment and will not be back. It’s not the money it’s the dishonesty that annoys me. Nearly fell asleep listening to him talk poo then he wants to charge a premium for it?!?
WOULD NEVER REFER FRIENDS OR FAMILY HERE ZERO STARS - NOT EVEN ONE: Was referred to Dr Basit Mirza by my GP. When I arrived, reception was not friendly. The consult itself was good - received a lot of advice and Dr Basit explained my skin condition in great detail. He could not prescribe me with the medication I required until he had received the results of a recent blood test. He said the prescription could be collected from the office, or sent by post, once he received the results. I proceeded to reception after the consult and explained to the lady there not friendly at all the arrangement I made with Dr Basit Mirza, and that I would PICK UP the prescription. Receptionist told me they would call me when it is ready to be collected. A few days go by and I do not hear anything, so I call and I start to explain the arrangement I had and seeing if they had received my results yet etc. and the receptionist immediately interrupts me and says, "yeah we got your results and the prescription is in the post". I explained that I was in the middle of moving house, AND Dr Basit's office was closing for 3 weeks over Christmas in 1 week, which is why I wanted to collect the script. She could not care less and hung up the phone yes she actually hung up on me...I thought, it's okay everyone has bad days and did not report it. I waited for the prescription for 3 more days, leaving Dr Basit's office only open for 2 more days before they close for 3 weeks, and I needed to start the medication as soon as possible. I called their office again and explained I had been waiting and it still hadn't arrived...the receptionist interrupted me once again and said "I am not Australia Post, what do you want me to do about it?" I suggested we think of another solution. If the script never made it to me, is it possible to cancel that script and issue a new one which I can pick up today as one example. "No that is not possible, we cannot issue another script"...okay, so what happens if this script never makes it to me? You are saying I will never be able to be prescribed this medication ever again?..."I don't have time for this" - yes those were her actual words. She proceeded to hang up on me once again in the middle of conversation, I called back and asked what was wrong, and that I am just trying to find a solution. She told me I don't get to tell her how to do her job. I asked her to just take a message for Dr Basit for me then, and she said "NO". I could not believe it. I asked, "why not? I am just trying to find a solution if my prescription never arrives"...she said "he is too busy all day and will not have time to talk to you"...I told her she was being extremely unprofessional, and I could not understand why she was being so rude towards me. She hung up on me for the third time where I called back and asked again, "please could you take a message for me"...she said "No". I then asked to speak to someone else as 2 people sit at Reception there and the first words coming out of this woman's mouth: "I heard everything, there's nothing we can do, Dr Basit is too busy to talk to you" and proceeded to hang up on me again. Nearly $300 spent on this consultation - prescription almost 1 month later never received, and I have no idea if Dr Basit Mirza ever received my message, or even knows that is how his staff talks to patients spending a lot of money on consults. I made an appointment with another Dermatologist who was extremely friendly, when I arrived the reception staff smiled can you believe it, they actually SMILED and asked if they could help me with anything. Just wow...I thought, yes this is where my $200 - $300 should be going per consult. I rarely write reviews, but I feel so strongly about how I was treated, especially in a medical industry. I could not imagine if my parents were ever treated this way, or any of my friends, how they would have handled it.
Dr Mirza is a very caring and capable local dermatologist. I have recommended him to my family and others.
My wife was treated by Dr Mirza. Extremely happy with the treatment. Very competent and caring.
Very unsatisfactory: serial misdiagnosis and a lack of clear recommendation or any sense of obligation to the patient.
Good and knowledgeable doctor, treatment plan worked and easy access to his practice/office.
Neat stitching and knows his stuff. Friendly Dr and staff.
