Amazing dishes!! Blue-fin tuna was so delicious! Felt as if I went back to Japan. All the staff are very kind, friendly and attentive. Japanese sake they offer are also excellent and very reasonable. Definitely a recommended Japanese restaurant on the coast as a Japanese myself.
The biggest compliment I can give a restaurant is to have back to back meals in the same place. Still, those two meals were not enough to try the extensive range of traditional Japanese fare on offer at Donto Sapporo. I already had a good feeling as I entered the restaurant to find daily specials which featured the freshest produce they had to offer. For dinner we sampled a gorgeous sashimi platter and I tried a smoked mackarel bento box for lunch. The staff were friendly and hospitable during our visit. I shall now look forward to my next visit the next time I find myself down at the Gold Coast.
Donto Sapporo is a real gem located at the Sorrento shopping village in Bundall. Donto is a small Japanese restaurant with no windows that can seat appropriately 40 customers max. If you have never heard of them before head over now because this is real authentic Japanese food and as close to what you will find in Japan, with real Japanese decor that makes you feel like you’re in Japan. It’s very quiet inside and everyone is very polite. Donto serve the freshest and tastiest sashimi that’s going to blow your taste buds and credit card. Highly recommend choosing the set menu starting between $48-65 but totally worth it. We chose the sashimi gozen for $62 and was worth every dollar which includes a plate of assorted sashimi, chawanmushi fish, sushi rolls, tempura, skewers, salad, miso soup and soba noodle or todays dessert. Personally I think this set menu can be shared between 2, but if you feel adventurous and hungry have it all yourself. Also check out their daily specials board for other amazing food. If you feel thirsty, they offer a selection of Japanese whisky and beers also. Overall very enjoyable and relaxed environment, food is excellent and you do get your moneys worth. When you find something good as Donto, you’ll want to come back again.
Fantastic Japanese with fresh ingredients, excellent service, great sake and beers, and a.place that will make you feel like you are in Japan even though you're actually in Australia. HIGHLY recommend.
Had a great NamaChirashi bowl and Special oyster for lunch. Great variety of seafood. Very satisfied. Only wished I didn’t have to drive so I could have a beer with it.
This restaurant was recommended by a friend but I'm not sure I'd recommend it to anyone. We were ahead of our schedule and arrived at the restaurant earlier the expected. The restaurant was half empty but the staff only let us in 20 mins later. The food was ok but the quality of service was far below the usual Japanese Restaurant. We were a group of 7. We asked the staff to refill our water and they filled only 3 glasses and left the others empty. We wanted to order some rolls as the portion was pretty small but was told we'll have to wait for another 30-45 mins for a few rolls because the kitchen was busy. But as mentioned, the restaurant only had a few tables, so imagine if it was busier... The food was just so so and nothing really stand out to me. Not recommended if you are expecting the usual high quality service and food from a Japanese Restaurant.
Personally, it is a pretty normal Japanese restaurant. We've reserved a table, however, we were arranged to sit outside the restaurant on the public aisle..Food taste is normal as well. Maybe we just didn't order the correct food.
Wow, it's been too long since I had flavours like this. For people looking for true Japanese flavours executed perfectly, then Donto Sapporo is a must! Their lunch set special at just under $20 was insane value!
Insanely disappointed. This was my go-to place for Sushi. I haven't ordered for 7 months as I was overseas and was looking forward to this order tonight. The Sushi rolls were always expensive but filled to the brim with fresh fish and ingredients. Little rice. Totally worth it. What I received tonight was an insult for $60 for 16 rolls. Better off at Sushi Train. Gone are the generous fillings. I bought $60 worth of rice with small bits of fish and avocado in it. I do not usually write reviews but this is very disappointing at this price point. I understand prices for everything has gone up but if I wanted to eat 500gr of rice I'd just boil some myself. Sad. I recommend updating your pictures on Uber Eats as the Sushi does not look like this anymore. This might be a one off issue but at this price point I would not try again to test that theory.
May be our expectations was too high …… the sashimi was fresh and ok value. It indicates how many pieces so I think was fair. Is a cute little place outside busy surfers paradise
