Beware - Read onnnWe have given this hotel a two, because, despite all the below problems, it has a great location, good parking and generous sized rooms, otherwise, it would have been a one. Staff were generally polite and helpful and the place generally clean and tidy.nnWe had an ant infestation and were moved eventually.nnDon’t expect to get drunk in the bar on spirits or liquors etc; their single measures are only 15ml but it’s not displayed anywhere. We went to other places and generally it’s 30ml for similar prices. Due to this we never ate or drank there during our stay. When brought up with management they tried to defend saying that ‘Here in New Zealand…..’ we stopped him by saying we are ‘locals’, to which he appeared lost for words!nnThe single glazing to the front of the building is inadequate for the traffic noisennBathrooms were tired, our first room had a lot of floor grout missing, noisy fan, mould around the shower and a badly stained sink, amongst other small thingsnnThe air con units were badly placed, being in the corner of the rooms, the first being short on control and the second not working at all. We understand that units are in the process of being refurbished.
What this hotel lacked in contemporary furnishings and decor, it was made up for by great staff service and friendly interactions.nThe rooms are very generous in size but are certainly in need of a refresh. Unfortunately our room was close to the road and we underestimated the amount of traffic noise that could be heard into late evening and again from early morning.nThe staff were fabulous and nothing was too much trouble. The service at dinner, breakfast delivery and room service were all done so with a cheery greeting and chat.nWhat a bonus to be able to link to personal paid subscriptions to watch a movie!
Very convenient location. Just a short walk to the shops and restaurants.nnLots of car parks. The room I was in had been refurbished I’m not sure how long ago but it is still a noticeably old hotel. Wide corridors mean sound travels.nnPlenty of space in the room and bathroom. I’m surprised the bathroom hadn’t been turned into a wet room setup as there’s the space for it, and it would make it more modern. Could definitely use some more hooks in the bathroom.nnOverall I would stay there again.
Comfortable bed. Shower went cold after one shower, so one of us missed out on hot shower. Gardens, outside of building needs a good clean up. Room clean and ok, but corridors/hallways quite dated.
Great setting for a hotel. The rooms are somewhat tired and the external AC units are rotten with rust. The showers are not cleaned properly and a lot of old gunge build up along the door frames. Spa and pool are awesome and very clean. Good servicenfrom the staff members.nGreat walking distance to the Basin and along the river
