If you're looking for: Poor / No communication. Inability to have simple questions answered. Outright incompetence when dealing with requests. Off-shore customer service. An insurmountable degree of frustration and mental anguish. Then you've come to the right place.

First up I'll say that I've no problems with the staff in the Perth branch so this is nothing personal. I'm not one for overly negative reviews but I've been a customer of Citibank for a year now and that's 365 days of disappointment! Final straw was yesterday when I went into the branch at 4pm to get a bank cheque written up for a new car, only to be told that they can't do them after 3pm as they trade on EST time (hence 3pm = 5pm). I'd be fully on board with that if I'd signed up in the Sydney branch but come on... I live in Perth so I expect to operate on Perth's timezone! Maybe I should have come back this morning at 7am... does that mean they'd be open if they're on EST!? In the end it was easier to have a relative transfer the money from their NAB account to my NAB account and get a bank cheque through them, than continue to pursue the jokers at Citibank. It's fair to say that my mortgage will very shortly go elsewhere. Strongly recommend avoiding Citibank...

Citibank, I know when it boils down to it, that it is all about money. But, with the money you do earn, teach your staff customer service. you ring me, and I pass on a message, and then she hangs up. Not good.

Nothing positive in my experience - at least 10 years with them. They are pleasant and helpful when I am running up my debt and paying them loads in interest, but the moment I am clear and reduce my limits, they bombard me with calls to try different services and get so annoying that I would rather close my account. Now that I have cancelled my card, they have not refunded my annual fee as stated in their terms (charge was only a few months old) and instead have been charging a $10 late payment fee every single week. I realise that is in their terms, but one would think they would resolve the issue first. Don't get me started on the rewards program, I decided to forfeit all of my points as I had an almost 100% failure rate, the item would suddenly just not be available after redemption was complete and it just got frustrating. Definitely not worth the extra being paid on the annual fee for a rewards card. Have had their life insurance product as well, so I was at one point being a good loyal customer and expanding my options with them. Will not be returning and will be suggesting others that I know move on to better providers.

USD Multicurrency account I have a business account with Citibank opened specifically for thier multicurrency account since we sell products globally in USD. The website is easy to use but difficult to understand. They provide each entry as a Debit and a Credit, so it is not obvious if it's coming in or going out. You have to try to work this out from the balance. It could be a lot simpler that this. The biggest issue though is the customer service. We've been hit by a lot of hidden fees, and if we go to the chat line or call them, which I've done many times, they don't have access to the multicurrency account so they say they will get someone to call back. However, no-one ever does call back. This has been going on for 12 months or more. A further issues is on commencement we put a stop to any incoming funds that were in AUD. The issue here is the intermediary banks see the funds going to Australia so they automatically convert at their not very good exchange rate to AUD despite the receiver being a USD account. The stop was to prevent this. However, you know what Citibank did in it's wisdom, they converted it back at their not very good exchange rate to USD eroding significant value and completely ignored the stop on the account. I've been asking for a reversal on this transaction for some time now and the client is prepared to put it through again, but Citibank don't call back. I've now physically written to them, still no response. Citi have told me on occasion that these issues should be dealt with by our account manager. However, clients are only given an account manager when the balance goes beyond $100,000 so we don't have one. Unfortunately I need to find another provider for this service.
