Food at lunch was excellent and plenty of it.. Really happy with the meals. So much we went back. Place is little hard to find but well worth it..
I had a proper meal of soup, lamb and rice. Note that rice/noodles are not included in the meal so order that separately $2. Free wifi. Excellent kiwi juice, try it! It seems there are quite many Chinese restaurants nearby. This one is worth trying, the menu looks quite good and I got served well and fast.
Something isnt going well here, they have halfed their portions in recent months. The food is still delicious. The do take away alright, chicken fried rice minus 50% See pic
Just paid $14 for the most average beef fried rice.... with approximately 5 pieces of beef in it. Way over priced. Image is after I have dug up all the beef!
Don't bother! While the food might have been OK if we'd had the chance to eat it while it was hot the terrible service meant we didn't get the option. Obvious attempts to multitask, delivering similar dishes to multiple tables, meant we received the first dish on its own, followed by another about 5 mins later but there was no sign of our rice after a further 15 mins. Only literally jumping up and down and complaining vociferously eventually produced the rice but by this time our other dishes were cold. I complained that this was not acceptable but the staff were not prepared to help and the management totally disinterested. In all decent restaurants if food is cold or a dish was forgotten probably what happened but nobody owned up, the meal is recooked in full. No chance here! We were offered a reheat, or to take it away in a tub. I refused to pay the full bill and begrudgingly the rice was taken off. I also refused to pay the service charge, as there was effectively none. Even after that reduction the price was excessive for the experience wish we had gone to Sampan House, we only went here to avoid getting wet.
The Customer Service was friendly and its a clean Restaurant and it stops there. Ordered a soup and it was like boiling water with veges and meat and the noodles made it worse like they weren't cooked properly? $18 definitely over priced. They probably thought the soup will cook it? Who knows? But it was inedible. We ended up going to Sampan House round the corner after that and what a relief the food there was delicious. Sorry Chongs won't be back after that experience.
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! the worst service I ever seen. Put the plates and bowl on the table as pise tower and let us set it... No water, nor glass. No sauces. And most of it : aweful meal, not tasty at all, soup was just tofu with boil water. The dumplings were not cooked enough. Just aberrant. Never go there... Forced to put one star... Maybe for the quick service but nothing else. And the funniest would be us getting sick tomorrow, like some of the reviews say, reviews we should have check before!
Strange noises coming from the back of the restaurant. Funny now i think about it there were a lot of dogs in cages and the beef tasted like no meat ive ever had. I ordered the beef chong ching and was tasty but didnt taste like beef
Not recommended. First impression was that the staff was not welcoming. We had Chinese Hot Pot. Each plate we ordered was small and unlike what was described on the advertisement. Expensive too comparing to other hot pot place in Christchurch. Not sure about their other dish on the menu but I would not go back.
This was our second visit, we were here a month ago and thought it was well worth repeating the experience. The food is good honest Chinese. Having read other reviews I fell it needs an uplift in its ratings. Maybe it has undergone a bit of a refurb in this time? Can’t fault the food or service.
