Enjoying a Hong Kong-style claypot rice during cold winters is simply divine. Claypot rice is quite rare in Sydney. The long cooking time and the need for precise temperature control mark the difficulty of crafting this specialty. These are the reasons why normally Chinese restaurant kitchens are reluctant to put it on the menu. This time though I was fortunate enough to come across it – in a café with beautiful idyllic decoration that sells normal brunches during the day, and unexpectedly transforms into a Hong Kong-style claypot restaurant at night! Seriously, a coffee shop in a shopping centre. No matter how wild your imagination is, it is impossible to know that claypot rice are on menu! I was impressed with its enchanting ingredients and good portion. That fact that it was cooked and served in an authentic casserole, but at a humble price of $18 is truly amazing! Foreigners, who must be tired of eating honey chicken and stir fry combinations are finding authenticity and satisfaction in these claypot rice dishes. They are carte du jour found only during winter times. Every grain of rice was mouth-watering and stomach warming. Remember to ask the kitchen staff for a small plate of soy sauce specially prepared for claypot rice. For those that struggle with getting kids to eat, here they will finish to the last grain of rice. I used to get a lot of complaints from friends who live in the Sydney northwest that they don't have any decent Chinese food in the area. This time you guys are in luck! Available Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights only. To prevent waiting for a long time - renowned for making the dish - it’s strongly recommended to call in and pre-order. Don't miss it!
Really enjoy the food, coffee. With lovely friendly staff there to help you with anything. Love the decor of the place so cosy.
Yummy breakfast with excellent service and polite staff. Plant lovers will like the cafe as the decor is green. Value for money
Stopped in for a late lunch, we experienced friendly staff and efficient service. Food tasted great, we received generous portions.
Food & coffee are fantastic! Lovely place for a get together and chat with friends. Staff are warm and very helpful.
Nice location, but the manager or the lady who was in the till could have been polite. She seems to be owning the cafe. First you should treat your customers politely when you live in a multi cultural country. I ordered a kid's menu. When I asked about a pan cake.I was not shown anything properly.Pan cake came with ice cream. I told the staff as my niece has got a bit cold that we don't want the ice cream . That lady was loud and telling the staff that is not our fault and not to make new pan cake . I needed to ask whipped cream again. But staffs are really nice. Please treat them like your family You can be a boss.but without them and customers business is nothing. Please treat all the customers fairly I have been to this cafe few times whenever I visited Australia.First time met this lady.
I would give ZERO star if I could. I drove past this CAFE today and the bad memory is still there from 5 years ago. So I decided to write a review. The cafe is located next to kids playground, awesome. They also get lots parents customers because of this. But how they treat the kids and parents is totally not acceptable. When my kids were little, one day we were at playground and one of boys need a nappy change. I went in the CAFE, the lady firstly stopped me to use their bathroom as we are not their dine in customers despite we ordered 2 take away coffees as kids were at playground. I explained to her it’s urgent and I will be quick. Then she changed her story about there wasn’t changing table for kids. I said it’s still ok and I went in the bathroom. She was so angry and would have chased me if she could… she was behind counter. When I got in the bathroom, it’s dirty and “amazingly” there was a changing pad but on the ground… I didn’t use it and finish the kid very quick. I came out and said to her they should have some kids facility in the bathroom as there are lots family here. And she gave me an evil look and talked bad about me to her partner I assumed. I felt so bad and told my husband. My husband went in and told off the male boss. And we never went back to that playground or CAFE again. I can’t believe I still remember it till today. How rude and heartless they can be to family has kids. They clearly benefit from the playground but they don’t want to provide anything in return. Despite all of above, if I walk in any place said I need bathroom for my kids, regardless if I am customer or not, I would assume they will let me use the bathroom. This is my story about this CAFE, a heartless place and I don’t expect the food comes from the heart too.
I like the rustic, "arts and crafts" feel that this cake has. There are bench seats and old signs which is a bit faux rural kitch. They have breakfast served all day and a fairly standard cafe menu. Breakfast is omelettes, eggs and pancakes. They have a great range of individual cakes too. I had the Spanish eggs for breakfast and a Mars bar cheesecake. Both meals were great. I'm not such a fan of the "order at the counter" style but that's what they have. The staff are nice and the service is quick. I love that you get loose leaf tea when you order a pot.
Hmm... has so much potential. His food was pretty good he says. Although he got his food almost 20 min before me. Big breakfast was good minus the mushroom which were undercooked apparently. Mine was pretty average. I mean I don’t usually get sweets for breakfast but it came out 20 min after my partners wasn’t hot and my drink also came out well after his. Service was average. Coffee was bitter. No apologies on lateness or food being late or anything. Anyways.....
A lovely place, but to get there you have to go through another coffee house. Definitely worth it
