Caulfield Community Toy Library

About

Development through creative play is our mission. Ensuring access for all, reducing landfill and the burden of expense on families buying new toys.

Story

The Caulfield Community Toy Library is a non-profit community group that was established in 1985. Our mission is "to provide an extensive range of age-appropriate quality toys to member borrowers". We are self funded through fundraising, council grants, volunteer services, membership fees, donations and levies. To become a member is as simple as completing an application form and paying an annual fee.

The Toy Library caters for children aged 6 months to 6 years, but has family games as well. There are approximately 2000 toys available in a range of categories. The types of toys available include Little Tikes (cars, kitchens, workbenches), construction toys (Lego and Duplo), costumes, games, videos, puzzles and baby toys.

The Toy Library currently has approximately 300 members.

By joining the Toy Library you will be able to meet other parents and have access to a wider range of play experiences for your children. You will be able to increase your children's interest / stimulation and offer greater learning opportunities and at the same time save money by borrowing rather than buying toys.

"The Carnegie Toy Library formerly known as the Caulfield Community Toy Library is a not-for-profit organisation, run by volunteers for the children of Glen Eira. We lend hundreds of toys to local kids every month, offering a diverse range for children from 6 months to 6 years old. Borrowing toys regularly means more fun for kids, as well as financial and space savings for parents!Play is a crucial factor in developing a child's cognitive, physical and imaginative capacities, as well as helping them practice social skills. Our collection is based on well-designed, safe and durable toys which encourage imaginative play, sensory development, use of fine and gross motor skills, literacy, numeracy and other important pre-school abilities."

I love this toy library! I have volunteered here as secretary for 2 years and everyone is so friendly. Very covid-safe. The toys are so well-organised and clean, with lots of modern toys which they buy all the time. They have so many big toys like doll houses and kitchen sets that come with accessories, so I don't have to store huge toys at home. The catalogue is HUGE and has more than 2,500 toys. I joined when my baby was less than 6 months so I got half a year membership for free. Prices are very cheap - excellent value for money.
I signed up when my child was 5 months old. It's great changing toys to suit your childs interests/skills without cluttering your house. Friendly volunteers running the library. Large range of toys available. They also have great party packs for birthdays at your house.
If you've got young kids in the Carnegie area, joining the toy library is one of the best decisions you can make for your family. It's an amazing community asset - hundreds of quality toys, with more constantly being added, that will help your child learn and have fun. No more trips to Chaddie to buy more cheap junk that clutters up your house, just fun excursions to the toy library to borrow more fantastic toys. My daughter has loved it since she was 8 months old, and belonging to the toy library has been a very special experience for me as a parent. HIGHLY recommend!
I've loved being a member of this Toy Library. There's such a huge variety of toys to choose from each week. My son loves picking his new toys and for only $90 a year it's a bargain! We also hired the party pack and the kids loved it! Couldn't recommend highly enough!
Love visiting the Toy Library! There's a huge range of fun and educational toys, including outdoor toys such as bikes and ride on bikes for younger children. We joined when my child turned one, and she's enjoyed having new toys to play with every few weeks.
Good place to borrow toys and great community!
This is a wonderful toy library! Joined when my daughter was 8 months old and we love going to choose new toys, and generally being part of great community.
Fantastic resource, huge selection of toys for all ages and developmental levels to chose from.
A lot of well maintained toys to choose from, highly recommend first time mums to check it out, I would save a lot of $$$ on toys if I found out Toy Library earlier ::
The Caulfield Toy Library has a great variety of toys for all ages and is an inviting place to bring your kids to choose their own toys too!
