I love Bunnings. It is a place where I could be there all day looking for something and come home with something else. It is always full of surprises and at great prices. Staff are very helpful, and they always have smiles on their faces, which is an excellent welcoming feeling. Thank you.
I tried to buy a gardening set today online, used one pass so that they can deliver my order in convenience but unfortunately they couldn't because apparently it was too big. Fine, I did click and collect instead at Bunnings Southport . So the order was made, went to the store to pickup the stuff and I was denied to pick it up because apparently they needed a physical drivers license to confirm my identity and not a photo of my license. Annoying but fine, I wouldnt want anyone to take my stuff. Went home, got my license, back to bunnings and collected my stuff with my young child in tow then went back home. When I unpacked the first of the 3 items I bought, a ryobi whipper snipper, I noticed it was not packaged properly like it was just all jammed in the box without any wrapping. I had a look closer and found traces of grass and evidence of wear and tear on the head of the snipper which would only mean it has been used already. Obviously, I was upset that I was given a used tool. Also, the whole point of doing a click and collect was so that it would be easier and convenient. This did not happen today. So I called bunnings and told them about it and was told they will replace it, I was already annoyed, No apology from staff. Went to Bunnings the 3rd time with my son in tow again and in the rain. Went in the store and as I went in with the long whipper snipper in a hurry, I accidentally touched the staff's arm at the entrance with the edge of the box that I was carrying to which I apologized. Gave the used snipper to the returns staff, I was told to get a new snipper myself, you would think they would assist me for the inconvenience but no. So went to get the repalcement myself and as I was looking for the snipper, they played an annoucement about being nice to the staff and not tolerating agressive behaviour. Wowww, how timely for them to play that announcement. So anyway, got the replacement and took it to the counter and waited my turn. At the counter, there were staff chatting to each other and saw me waiting but guess what, didn't bother to attend me and just turned away. Finally this young staff with a two toned hair and pierced nose attended me. Said for me to pull out the snipper because she could not. Fine, Opened and unpacked it myself. I showed her the residue of the grass and the wear on the equipment. She then scanned my invoice and said I can take the replacement already. No apology from her and no explaination of why I was given a used snipper. I then took the item and left as I was already late for an appointment but as I was leaving the store guess what happened? The staff yelled thank you at me sarcastically. I just walked away and didn't bother to look as I have already wasted enough time about the whole thing and arguing with staff is pointless. I just needed to get to my appointment already. Writting this review now because I got knocked back the line for my appointment because I was late apparently. Anyway, that's service for you from bunnings Southport. I'm not saying all of the staff there are terrible but some just have no manners or customer service. FYI, I was visibly upset about the whole thing but restrained myself, never raised my voice, nor cursed or was sacrastic to them.
Except for 1 helpful young man in the paint section & the lovely 'singing' lady at the checkout, all staff were either too 'busy' doing other things except customer service to be bothered with assisting me - without a huff or a disgruntled attitude. This was across the Electrical department, Power Tool department & even at the 'help' desk - it seemed as though I had interrupted everyone's morning & was an inconvenience! Seriously, if you don't like customers...don't work in customer service!!
In the pouring rain it was a haven to entertain my granddaughter in the kids play area and the cafe was amenable. Entertained us both for hours. Never thought of this aspect of Bunnings before.
May be worth considering some subtlety in monitoring the self-checkout if you’re going to make it the only option. The overbearing individual makes scanning your own items uncomfortable, don’t particularly enjoy being made to feel like a criminal.
