Story

The Broome Historical Society speaks through photographs, subject albums and visual displays at the Museum to provide visitors with an understanding of Broome from its rough and ready early days to its emergence as a World Centre for cultured pearling. Broome was the first truly multicultural district in Australia; Aboriginal, Japanese, Chinese and Europeans have all contributed to Broome.s very diverse cultural history and the Museum, in its exhibits and its albums reflects this richness. Visitors will learn about . Pearling and Luggers, Exploitation and Exploration, Adventures, Hardships and Mateship, Asian and Europeans; Riots, Shipwrecks and Missing Diamonds; and Japanese attack on Broome in World War II.

Broome Historical Society aims to keep a colourful history of Broome alive and to protect and maintain the objects in the Museum.

Probably the best $6 you'll spend all day. A classic volunteer run museum with some top quality exhibits describing Broome's fascinating history

At the time of writing this I'm sat in the cooling interior of the museum watching a funny video about the old Broome telephone exchange. The two Bills who greet you at the door are charismatic and set the tone for the array and depth of the exhibits inside. A great way to spend a few hours with a treasure trove of exhibits and information on display. Really gives you some background to this dusty town and how's its shaped into what it is.
