Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary

Story

Bonorong is a Wildlife Sanctuary with a difference. Through education and empowerment we harness the power of the community to aid us in the protection of Tasmania’s unique native wildlife.

Our product is our passion and we share this with our guests during in-depth, personalised tours which showcase our animals and the work of the Sanctuary. Tours at Bonorong are fun, informative and inspiring.

Our work revolves around the rehabilitation and eventual release of injured and orphaned wildlife. We operate Tasmania’s only 24hr wildlife rescue service. It is these stories of survival that we aim to share with our visitors.

I love animal & I hate those places showing animal just for money. We now usually go for a sanctuary. This place is gorgeous. They do rescued & released... but for those who might not able to live in the wild anymore, they stay in the sanctuary. You can feed kangaroos (included) and other animals (if you pay more). It is a great family day out. Visitors should keep their voice down, animal are usually sensitive to sound. I will certainly come again the next time I visit Hobart. Keep on the good work~

Good educational tour. It's a sanctuary for animals with parents killed by cars etc. They rehabilitate them and release into the wild. Absolutely worth a visit and do donate. They need it to support these poor animals. One Tasmanian devil took my heart when I heard her story that she's been with an accident and gone dead and bonkers. She runs anticlockwise day in and day out, resting only for food and sleep. No purpose but she does it because she's not sane.

Amazing natural wildlife park. Great for kids and tourists. Lots of kangaroos free roaming to pat and feed. Also you are able to see the care they provide these native animals. I purchased a bed bag that will be given to a volunteer carer for a baby wombat

Small area, but had multiple animals here. Enthusiastic and informative guides on the tours. Definitely worth stopping to visit. You can feed the free roaming kangaroos. What was really interesting was being able to see what the staff were doing in the vet hospital. The staff were dealing with a snake when we were there.

It's a nonprofit wildlife sanctuary with amazing tour guides providing you with great descriptions of habitat of Tasmanian species like Tasmanian devil and wombat. I felt really bad when I have been told that more than 80 percent of the devil population is suffering from blindness disease and the two baby devil they had were also half blind. They also have koalas whom you can touch and love. The 45 minutes tour ends at this point. Then you have enough time to feed kangaroos and appreciate different bird species, it's here that i got to know that cockatoo can live upto 100 yrs and they have one more than 100 years old. It's a must visit place if you love environment and want to help these people who are working really hard to save these amazing creatures by running non profit sanctuary and a hospital to treat these beautiful animals. Believe me you will get to know so many new things that have never heard of. Worth it totally recommended.
