Blackies, located within Williamson Park, is directly behind the surf club. We offer a unique outdoor cafe setting pride ourselves in delivering friendly service, quality fresh food and barista made coffee. All baking is made in-house, alongside our own in-house smoked salmon. Our offerings suit the variety of tastes buds and budgets.

Came to the place for lunch with my two daughters today. We ordered coffees and smoothies, coffees were very good however the smoothies were a bit watery but overall good. We ordered butties with hashbrowns and a garlic prawn pizza. The butties were very good however failed to mention that they contained bacon, which my vegetarian daughter couldn't eat. The pizza wasn't full cooked through and scarily the prawns were completely raw photo attached. Unfortunately I ate a few slices before I noticed. Didn't advise the staff at the time due to them being preoccupied and had to take it home to take a photo as I didn't have my phone on me. Should have advised the staff at the time and is a fault on my part. Service was good maybe a little bit inexperienced but nevertheless friendly. My daughter did advise them on the bacon in the buttie and they offered to refund yet we didn't see it necessary as I ate the buttie myself it was delicious. Overall it is a nice place and we will give it another go in the future in hopes that this was simply a bad day! Edit: Yikes!
Peak SUMMER and extremely busy, am happy to say the service was super friendly and the food was incredible! Had the vegetarian big breakfast and honestly was one of the best breakfasts iv had in a long time. Super impressive how fast the coffee came out even through the place was packed.
I never thought I'd describe a $7 caramel slice as a bargain, but that's exactly what Blackies' is. Massive, utterly delicious and - as the server described it - 'totally gnarly'. Worth the drive to Whanga from literally wherever you are. Coffee is also really good - not over roasted and bitter. Brilliant beach side location just behind the surf club tops this off as one of my absolute favourites.
I didn't expect any tasty food. I just thought it's easy since the location was convenient. Staffs were very kind and clear about my fussy order, the food was very tasty. Pizza was quite nice than I had expected and ice coffee wasn't pretty but I loved it. Sweet corn fritters was also nice with sourcream. Only banana milkshake was average I can say, but still tasty ! The chairs won't be comfortable but that won't be something you can expect from ocean cafe.
Was pretty disappointed after reading previous reviews. Staff were pretty miserable. One acted like they were at a funeral. Food was pretty average. Had big breakfast and vege breakfast. Halloumi tasted like it'd been cooked for an hour... no nice sauces with it.. Nice spot right by the beach.
Very iconic meeting place for locals. Enthusiast proprietor loudly greeting customers she knew who interacted with gusto. Small omissions dialoguing with unknown/new customers was missing upon enter/leaving, spoons for sugar, long wait for 2 coffees when we were the only order etc meant we sought out another cafe for our weeks holiday. Coffee enjoyable once received. Location is fab - very close to beach and surf club and no opposition business... just felt they were going through the motions and lack of "polish" to their offerings.
Popular with the summer crowd. Long line up but was served quickly. Had the breakfast burger and latte. Was good. Smaller portion than I expected though. Next time I’m getting the eggs Benedict. They looked good. Friendly staff. Beach vibe.
Food was great. Then why only one star? Their customer service was terrible. The front lady doesn’t know what the customer service is. After they served the meal, we found one of our orders missing. So we asked the lady if the last meal is coming or not, and she didn’t come back for ten minutes. There was no feedback, so we couldn’t help but think that she’s already let the kitchen know the missing one. Everyone would think the same way. A few minutes later, she came to the table and just said the order hadn’t gone through, so come to counter and pay first, WITHOUT ANY APOLOGY. I am 100% sure that we double-checked the order. And four people came and having four coffee and only three food, and they kept looking at the kitchen... isn’t it common sense to come and double-check? Eventually, we never got any apologies for missing the order until the end. Such a terrible experience. Never come back again. + When you edited a review, it automatically changes to the date it was edited. We visited your cafe on November 2nd, 2019.
A pleasant place to have something to eat/drink at. Its open in the mornings with good space in the park by the beach and facilitiesFood: 4/5
