BlackStar Pastry was established in Oct '08, 2500, 4am starts later, Christopher Thé and his team are still baking delicious moments for us all.

Story

The café itself has an eclectric vibe that feels instantly familiar. Fine coffee made from Little Marionette coffee beans, a DIY toast station, house-brewed iced tea in summer and fresh juices serve as perfect accompaniments to the glorious array of sweet and savoury offerings.

Good honest slow cooking enlivened with fresh experimentation is what BlackStar is all about. You can read more about Thé’s creative process in his Journal musings, and you may even be lucky enough to find a free recipe!

The world famous Black Star Pastry Watermelon Cake absolutely lives up to the hype! Delicate pastry, slightly sweet cream, juicy watermelon and strawberries topped with pistachio ... WOW! One piece is not enough.

There was queue at the store but service was prompt. Refreshing cakes with watermelon, raspberry or Lychee. Rather over priced though considering the size of the cake.

Smaller portions of what once was a decent size for $9 reflect the change of ownership of this once loved Newtown institution to Chinese interests. It also explains why the staff are also not locals. Bye Bye Black Star :[

Watermelon was delicious and really light, complimented perfectly with hint of rose wate. The other one is the pistachio lemon zen cake and the cream was beautiful and pistachios paired perfectly with chocolate mousse and lemon curd. Highly recommend to try this the coffee as well as it was made just right!

Never disappoints! Shared the Watermelon cake  with my friends. It was delicious!!

Every raves on about their Watermelon cake. Yes, it's truly amazing. BUT!!!! Have you tried their pies. It's to die for. Thank you guys :
