The reserve was good Plenty of walking tracks. There is an info sign in the car park that shows different trials around Canberra to do. The Telstra tower has seen better days. Very sad that its not open There are small pockets of areas that provide a view over Canberra. Caution for bike riders either going and especially driving down. Overall still worth a visit. Playground: Nil Restrooms: Nil Dog-friendliness: I think so Picnic area: There are some
It would have been nice to know the Telstra Tower was closed before we got there. Some minor views if you look hard because most of the viewing is designed to be done from up top. Restrooms: Tower was closed so didn't have any access. I was with my parents so it wasn't good.
It's a great shame that this iconic place has been left to decay as it has. The views should be great, but no one has trimmed back the trees for a few years by the look of it, so there are no views at all, other than a few glimpse on the way up and down.
Top spot, good walks, you can still get fairly close to the tower, plenty of parking.
Telstra tower is closed for renovations. The entire cliff is unkept, with no view from the top of the lookout. All you can see is grass, bushes and more grass. It's like no one cares about the upkeep of this nature reserve anymore while the tower is closed! Unfortunately, this ruined the whole experience for us. There exist other lookouts in Canberra that are considerably better! Go to them. Don't bother with this gloom.
Incredible diversity of local flora with understory in great condition relative to some other parts of Canberra nature park. Download the PDF map of trails. Can walk in also from some gates at the highest boundary with the ANB Gardens. There's a great summit loop track. The Telecom tower was the subject of litigation back in the early 70s which helped to define the scope of tort actions in public nuisance. You may well meet the local hopping marsupials unexpectedly. No single track MTB for good reason due to rare plant diversity but riding on fire trails is ok. Dog-friendliness: No please do not bring your dogs here, they will disturb the kangaroos and other wildlife.
Telstra Tower is closed as of Dec 2022. No ETA on reopening. Views are still good though.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
One of the best views in Canberra. Shame the tower is currently closed for who knows. Many great hikes top to bottom and around the top. Afew different access points. The areas aren't as maintained as well as they could be compared to the BM peninsula area.
A great walk up Black Mountain, a shame that the tower isn't open
What a wonderful experience to be up close and personal with these gorgeous animals. We also had a pleasant autumn day to walk around at our leisure and follow the signs to make sure we didn't miss anyone. Another good reason to visit Canberra
