Had a great night here with great goods, excellent service and nice ambiance. I walked past the place many times and always smelt the soup came out of their kitchen. When I mentioned it to my client who has a business nearby, he decided to take me here. The foods were fantastic and the bouillabaisse was the highlight. 3 of us had it and we also ordered the eye fillet steak which was juicy and flavourful. Our entree calamari was super soft. Very well done. The service by Simon and the rest of the staff were superb too. Very attentive, humorous, and friendly. Will definitely come back in the future.
Wow what can I say? It was perfect from start to finish. From the moment we walked in the door we were greeted immediately and brought to our table. The manager put us by the window as I mentioned it was my partner birthday, a very nice touch! The menu options gave you the sense of being in France and not Melbourne, the food with authentic and of a very high quality and presentation. Our waiter was fantastic, always topping our glasses and offering drinks. Our entrees came almost immediately and were of a large volume which was a pleasant surprise. I had the gnocchi and my partner the barramundi, both were excellent. If you want to experience French cuisine in Melbourne, this is the place to go.
Been meaning to visit this Melbourne institution for a while and I finally got there. Reservations are a must here and I visited with hubby early on a Thursday evening before going to see a show. The decor is beautiful and the atmosphere is wonderful with fabulous service. The food was nice, we both had the coq au vin, we didn't have any sides but I think you probably need them as the portions aren't that big. For dessert I opted for the creme brulee which was delicious and a good size. I just felt it was a little on the expensive side, $21 for a pudding, seemed a bit much, but that is my only gripe.
This is my second visit. Absolutely love this little French bistro. Cozy, friendly and funny staff. Food is delicious!! The soup is something to die for!
Every time I come here I am impressed - we came to have dinner before the show and the food was off the charts delicious. Service was great and the atmosphere and the overall experience was fun and really a worthwhile evening of fun and great food
Whether you’re a discerning Frenchman or a bogan les named Joan look no further than this nifty little establishment to get your snail fix. Unfortunately they weren’t serving any snails today but you can blame covid for that, or Putin or women with balls it’s one of those. So I went for the coq au vin which I must say was delicious, even through the serving sizes were smaller than Glanus Berejiklians career prospects but that’s what you get when you go somewhere a bit fancy. The gnocchi I tasted was delicious and softer than a cloud. The place was busy yet the service was expedient, attentive and polite. We had a great time and would like to come back one day for a tasty snail and a wheel of cheese.
What a find. Gorgeous cosy French bistro right next to the Athenaeum theatre, perfect for a pre-show bite and glass of bubbles. Service was attentive but not overbearing, very thoughtfully enquired about our timeframe so we weren’t late for the theatre. Food was sublime. Vibe was cosy and relaxed but bustling. Highly recommend the pate but all the food was delicious. Will be back.
Nice setup. Romantic place. Great service. Bit pricey. For what we paid I was expecting bigger and better food.
like stepping into paris. a perfect spot for a fancy special dinner or quick bite before visiting the theatre. beautifully friendly and helpful staff who made us feel so welcome and special! the food is exceptional and of great quality, feels fancy but also so full of love and almost like it has been prepared at home for you, emphasised by the friendliness of the staff and cosy, warm and dim interior. the souflee was divine, as was the risotto, such a generous helping, and that choc mousse for dessert, gosh, delicious! cant wait to return, where im sure we'd be greeted with open arms! thankyou bistro d'orsay - worth the email to snag a booking!
Old school French restaurant. Lovely delicious food, though perhaps a tad pricey. Perfect place to bring the parents, or to feel fancy, before a night at the theatre.
