Big Sams St Albans Market
"St Albans Market is an unapologetically traditional and authentic fresh food market. We are not some new-wave trend-following foodies, but we are the original foodies. As such, we are truly passionate about good food and bringing it to the people of the West as we have been since 1973.At the market you will find a diverse range of stalls to suit your tastes – including three butchers, two poultry and game stores, two nut and spice shops, four Continental delis, four fruit and vegetable shops, a florist, two seafood shops, a Balkans-style café, a Vietnamese-style café and a variety store. There really is something here for everyone’s fresh food needs. So come in and visit us to experience a little bit of yesterday today."

A few stalls closed, however managed to get good quality fruit and veg. Love the ease of moving around the various shops. Chicken, duck eggs, fish, meat, deli meats, fruit and vegetables all b available. Clean and light. I'll be back.
There was a few empty/closed stalls today when i went, close to 10am. In saying this I still got everything I was after. Clean, easy to move around as the walkways are wide. I'll be back. Prices were great.
The market is absolutely plentiful with fruit and vegetables, has lots of delicious products from the delicatessens, wait around till 11am when they put everything on sale for cheaper prices.
Best place to visit if you are interested in getting to know about various ingredients, with a hearty welcome by the local community in the market. Helena Coffee is one of the best place to visit for a coffee lover. Turkish coffee and turkish delights are one of the standouts.

Had a coffee at the market to start the day and got some lovely home made cakes to take home. Great set up, the place was big, airy and clean. The shop keepers were really friendly. Lots of fresh produce and delis selling cheese, cured meats, coffee, confectionary, jams, biscuits etc
Went for the first time today, and generally go to Preston Market that I love...I really appreciated the size the cleanless and better prices for Veg and fruits then Preston BUT I didn't put 5 stars because of the very very limited choice of FISH shops : Only 2!! And very very expensive and with poor choices...So disappointed...When I go to the market I shop for few weeks Buy fresh and freeze myself. And generally Meat and fish ..Today, in the fish section, I treated ourselves with only 2 dozen of beautiful oysters and some prawns Not enough
2 Words of Advice: Don't buy anything you see until you walk around once to get the best value for money And Bring a cart, so many deals. Really good value for money There's about 8 butchers and 3 seafood stalls inside that you can find a better deal for certain meats. Some of the places were doing $20 for 3 trays of any meat, and each tray was pretty generous and decent meat this was at 3pm, an hour before close Easy to find, great amount of parking, you don't have to pay for parking. Probably got around $400 for of meat you'd probably pay at coles and woolies for around $150, however if we walked around before buying from the first place we went to, it would have been even cheaper. Closed on Sundays
The big market in St Albans to get your fresh fruit and veggies but also on a Friday night you will have to check times in desperate measures when you got no money you have the St Vinnie's soup van that gives you a food hamper of fruit, veggies, bread, some hot meals or meals you can heat up in a microwave and your basic toiletry needs.Just bring your own shopping bags and they will fill it for you but as I said you will need to check dates and times as time varies week to week sometimes it's on Saturday night and Tuesday nights in front of The Big Sam Market. The voluntary staff are nice and very friendly and helpful if you need help with other things such as being homeless and needing help for housing clothing furniture etc.
Small and yet very assorted market, perfect to visit and shop if you have mobility issues. The best is the deli, people in there are very nice and attentive, always with a smile and they help my partner with their bags. Also many thing there are European, much better than Dandenong market which is huge, but with Muslim stuff. The only bad thing is the butcher right next to the deli, some times they have people working there who does not understand what you want, when you ask for a piece if beef to be sliced they do it in the back outside your vision, some times less kg than asked or too thin. Veggies in the market are very assorted and fresh.
