THE STORY SO FAR
After making gelato for 15 years (and coffee for 23) in Sydney
at Badde Manors Café we opened in Bellingen in Easter 2006.
HOME MADE ARTISAN GELATO
All our gelato is made on the premises using our own formulas and small scale Italian equipment.
REAL INGREDIENTS / ALL NATURAL
When we make chocolate we use Dutch cocoa; for hazelnut, ground hazelnuts, and for fruit, real fruit etc. etc.
We don’t use artificial colours or flavours.
LOW FAT / LOW SUGAR / STRONG FLAVOURS
We formulate dairy flavours (based on milk and cream) to contain around 5% butter fat – just a little more than full cream milk. All our fruit flavours are sorbets, ie are they are water-based and contain no fat. Our sugar content is lower than other gelato and ice cream, so our product is never too sweet. Finally, we believe that chocolate gelato should taste like eating chocolate; that fruit flavours should taste like eating fruit etc – even with your eyes closed.
EXOTIC
Where else can you get lychee or sour cherry sorbet, or zabaglione, or date & walnut, (but not artificial flavours like ‘bubble gum’)?
AND THAT’S NOT ALL
We also make excellent coffee, leaf tea and real chai. Also, fresh juices, gelato smoothies, milk shakes and tiramisu. We carry a range of locally made cakes and provide delicious and inexpensive small meals.
