This is one place where the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover" applies! Excellent empanadas, apple pies and meat pies, they sell other pastries but imho these 3 are the best. Their apple pies are to die for - the pastry is amazing! Empanadas are baked with a slightly spicy meat filling with a slice of egg and some olives - so very tasty. Their "aussie" meat pies have a near perfect crust and filled with a peppery meat and gravy filling. All made fresh daily by Rigoberto who is now well over 70 years old, so get in there while you can. Unfortunately it's cash only and they are closed on Sundays.
All l can say is WOW ! The best empanadas and cakes and coffee l have had for a very long time. Also very friendly service. Thank you Café Bariloche.
Simple and easy breakfast. Local and familiar crowds meant quite bit of cross-restaurant chatter at breakfast time - if you're after a quiet nook, then after 9:30am is your best bet. Friendly staff with the food coming out quickly.
I absolutely love this place. The pies are and pastries are the best in Sydney!! I have been living in the US for the past 22 years and every time I come home to visit family in Sydney my trip to Cafe Bariloche is a MUST!!! I get the same thing every time. The mushroom meat pie and poppy seed danish. OMG it is the best pie and pastry I have ever tasted. I look forward to my trip back home to see my family and to eat these delightful scrumptious pastries. Compliments to the chefs!!! Hats off to you. Good coffee, and good baked goods and food. Can't say I've been as often as the other cafés I the area, so I don't know the staff as well, but it's not a bad place! Love the almond croissant!
This place is hilarious and great. I go because I like the Australian family with Argentinian heritage that operate it. The all-meat empanadas and pain au chocolat filled with something that tastes like Cottees chocolate sauce are no good. But there's no other place in Glebe where all the patrons and the owners get into long conversations about world cultures and teach each other their native languages. The coffee is fine, but that's not the most important thing. I always leave feeling happy.
Don't be deceived by this little place. It is filled with amazing pastries and their delicious empanadas. If you're lucky you will find some...they usually make them between 11-1pm.
Best Empanadas in Sydney, and yet to find a better Steak & Mushroom pies. I’ve know this place since 2003 and still a regular there.
