Australian Electoral Commission

After Waiting in line for half an hour with my I.D and then checking my name off and recieving a ballot paper.I began to tick the boxes of my chosen candidates. Once finished i put the ballot paper into the ballot box and left the establishment where i had voted.I recieved a letter in the mail and this letter says"you have failed to vote".im facing a 150$ fine even tho i have performed my civil duty... I am currently unemployed and will not be able to pay my debt which is really unsatisfactory. I was told that contributing to society and doing my duty would void any fine or impeachment. Please tell me why you have mad such a huge mistake and why i should have to be complacent.I want to be adressed as soon as possible to avoid any further consequences of your fatal mistake.
