By far the best food we have eaten in a very long time! Roxy manager went above and beyond and made our time twice at The Austral a memorable one. The chef is to be commended as he cooked all of our steaks to perfection! Definitely will be returning when in Mackay again. Roxy - you and your team were amazing and we loved our time there. Another amazing lunch. Return customers from Airlie beach , Make the drive to the Austral to enjoy one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. The Dry Aged is cooked to perfection. Roxy seems to be the team leader and always greats us with a beautiful friendly smile and there is nothing that she would not do to make our experience perfect. I would like to say Thankyou to Roxy for always making it the perfect dining experience and we can not wait to return for another amazing experience. Many thanks .nSheree the Whitsundays
If you're looking for a traditional hotel/pub with great counter meals yep, they're still called that here then look no further as this is, easily, the best pub in Mackay! It's spacious surprisingly, not many others are in Mackay township and the service friendly, along with the food combining with a healthy selection of drinks, no matter what your poison, rounding out the trifecta! The food is delicious, hearty, wholesome value for money. The steak is of a quality worthy of this major beef producing region & are more than ample in proportion! You won't come away from here feeling hungry. The coral trout almondine was gob-smacking restaurant quality, and tasted next level delicious! The garlic bread was what it tasted like ~ bulk production, commercial soft, doughy bread ~ though still palatable and unable to detract from the splendour of the meal. The beer here was cheaper than everywhere else in Mackay that I went to & I like beer! and with the family owned Cooper's Pale Ale ON TAP put paid to the rest of the afternoon . Very satisfying. If you want to go to the pub for a meal, in Mackay you go here! The large, roomy public bar is order at the bar, no booking required though I'd definitely make a reservation if attending the bistro. It was fair dinkum the best pub food I've had in years.
The perfect Sunday steak lunch. Tee-bone and a rump, pepper sauce. At last a chef who really knows how to steam vegetables to perfection. But it was a bubbly young waitress , Mel from WA who made the experience so positive. XXXX Gold was fresh and the Chardonnay crisp. An all round first class establishment. One can quickly identify excellence soon after arriving. The Austral is one of the good ones.
Bistro: Steaks are always cooked the way you want them to be. Worth it, with drinks and calamari starter, for $45 per person.nTable service was a bit slow, to be expected with a full house. Not bad with about 15mins for drinks, then another 5 mins for starters to arrive, ordered at the same time.nVery busy on Saturday nights with a full house and a lot of chatter, but friendly staff and a casual pub family vibe.
