My partner had an appt October last year. Was told to have a CT scan in 6 months time, which he did on 1st April, and that a follow up appt will he made with neurosurgery. It is now 3 months after the CT scan 9 months since last appt and still no appointment. I have emailed 3 times and called the outpatient’s phone number to where I was rudely spoken to by the operator. This is a joke! He has a brain tumor and the CT was to see if it has grown.
I'm writing to share feedback regarding my husband's recent neurosurgery appointment notification. While we appreciate the reminder, receiving it by message only an hour before the appointment was unexpected and made preparation challenging. Additionally, we didn't receive any prior information about the appointment. When trying to clarify by phone, we encountered rudeness from the operator, which was disheartening because the operator can not find my husband detail and directly cut the phone. Improving the notification process and ensuring respectful communication would greatly enhance the patient experience.
Specialist appointment system is absolutely disgusting. SMS notifications of appointments for elderly patients meant that my mother missed her appointment. She is used to receiving mail notifications. I called up and was informed by the gentleman that it wasn't possible to rebook unless another referral was supplied by the GP even though original referral was made in house by the Austin. A lot of elderly people are overwhelmed by technology and no considerations or allowances are made with this new system. Some of the most vulnerable people of the community are once again left behind.nnAtrocious system.nnI have endless amount of praise for the nurses, doctors and PCAs at the Austin ED though.
Appointment notifications don't give clear information and patients, whom have multiple specialists, aren't always able to identify which specialist the appointment has been made for. Trying to find out is a nightmare with excessive on-hold wait times and rude, condescending and unhelpful call operators. Patients are then berated for not being prepared for the appointment.nArranging for support staff to assist clients to attend these appointments is problematic and costly; especially when is spent in waiting room areas for 15 to 20 minute consult.
I'm a regular patient at the Austin and had 3 seperate admissions in via ED last year 2023 the most recent in mid December. Despite the unfortunate circumstances that led to my admission I cannot anything but positive things about the staff, both triage, emergency department and those who looked after me while I was on the ward. Even the last the time despite a long wait which is not the hospitals fault I was still treated both with respect and understanding by the staff. They also did the best to try and alleviate my anxiety as I hospitals trigger me and I suffer from the white coat syndrome.
