OK - I'm laying it down...they might do the best chips in the world! Crispy, not greasy, soft in the middle, not dry and fully of flavor. Had Steak dinner with chips and salad with a couple of craft beers to boot -genuinely amazed at the value for money.

Super friendly and welcoming staff. Great location for lake views and people watching. Amazing beer and great food. Hard to find a seat and order if you’re on your own.

I work in town and today(25. Nov.) I pop in to Alta's with my partner during my lunch break because we both wanted to taste the famous steak from them. When we ordered in the counter . The waitress stopped me in the middle of my request and told me I had to show her my ID because I look younger than 25. As a matter of fact, I'm 27 and I was wearing my working uniform with my company's logo on it. Even though I explained to her I was on my lunch break and that was the reason I only had my wallet with me. She insisted to ask us to leave the premise and to make it more insulting ,she said : only if you are with your parents. He (my partner)doesn't look like your dad . I had no idea if it's her duty to ask but the way we were told off : no smile and cold look. And to be specific, it happened at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. And we never asked any alcoholic drink at all. Located in central queenstown in a popular holiday place . With all competitor around . I guess it's not a good image for locals or tourists if they just want a nice lunch meal and be told off to leave. Very disappointed

Atlas is easily our favourite place in Queenstown. The beer selection is amazing. The food is unreal, and as far as Queenstown goes. $20 for a great steak or short ribs is about as good as it gets. The staff are probably the best part. Keen for a chat, fun and friendly. Only thing it could do with is some more seating, but they can't really help that. We managed to find somewhere to sit every time with 3 of us with pretty minimal wait. Oh, and make sure you visit the bathroom there. That sounds strange, but just do it.
